Kemba Hudley Walker (born May 8, 1990 in New York City , New York) is an American basketball player who is currently under contract with the Boston Celtics . Before that, he worked for the Charlotte Bobcats for a long time and, after they were renamed, for the Hornets .
Career
college
Walker spent his college years at the University of Connecticut . In 2011 he won the Big East Tournament with the Huskies . Walker achieved a tournament record with 130 points in five games and more points than in any conference tournament in the last 15 years. As a result, he was elected MVP . On April 4, 2011, he led his team to the NCAA Division I Basketball Championship , where he was named Most Outstanding Player . After his junior year, he decided to leave college and enroll in the NBA draft . In his senior year of college he got 23.5 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.9 steals and 4.5 assists per game.
Charlotte Bobcats / Hornets (2011 to 2019)
In the 2011 NBA Draft , Walker was selected ninth by the Charlotte Bobcats . In his first season for the team, the point guard came up with 12.1 points, 4.4 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game. Because of his performance, Walker was invited to the NBA All-Star Weekend Rookie Challenge . He also managed his first triple double when he scored 20 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds on January 28, 2012 against the Washington Wizards . He was only the third Bobcats player in the club's history to do so. In sporting terms, the season ended sobering for Walker and the Bobcats, as only seven games could be won and 59 games were lost, which was a negative NBA record.
In his sophomore year, Walker increased to 17.7 points, 5.7 assists, 2.0 steals and 3.5 rebounds per game. He took part in the rookie challenge for the second time, this time as a sophomore . In his third year, he achieved his second triple-double of his career when he scored 13 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists in a win against the Orlando Magic . With the Bobcats he reached the NBA playoffs for the first time, but where they were eliminated without a win against the Miami Heat .
On October 30, 2014, Walker signed a new $ 48 million contract for four years with the now renamed "Hornets" franchise. On December 27, 2014 he achieved a new career record with 42 points in a loss to Orlando Magic. Walker played his best season that year, scoring 17.7 points, 6.1 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game.
In the 2015/16 season , Walker set a new personal career record with 52 points on January 18, 2016 in a 124: 119 victory over Utah Jazz . He also beat the Hornets franchise record set by Glen Rice in 1997 . With the Hornets he reached the playoffs and achieved a new career record with 20.9 points per game. In the 2016/17 season , Walker was appointed to the NBA All-Star Game for the first time . Although Walker delivered the best odds of his career with 23.1 points per game with 44% field hit rate and 40% three-way rate, the Hornets missed the qualification for the playoffs. On November 17, 2018, Walker reached a new career record in this category with 60 points against the Philadelphia 76ers . Because of his strong performances, he was invited back to the NBA All-Star Game.
Boston Celtics (since 2019)
On July 6, 2019, Walker was transferred to the Boston Celtics in a so-called "sign-and-trade" deal , after it had shortly before been revealed that Kyrie Irving would leave the Celtics for Brooklyn .
