Marcus Osmond Smart (born March 6, 1994 in Flower Mound , Texas ) is an American basketball player . He has been under contract with the Boston Celtics in the NBA since 2014 .

College time

Smart played for Oklahoma State University for two years . In his first year he caused a sensation with the Cowboys and was considered a candidate for the top pick in the 2013 NBA draft . However, he returned for another season. After his sophomore year, he announced his move to the NBA.

NBA

In the 2014 NBA Draft , he was selected sixth by the Boston Celtics . In his rookie year , Smart achieved 7.8 points, 3.3 rebounds and 3.1 assists as well as 1.5 steals in 67 games of the season from 38 starts. He reached the first playoff round with the Celtics, where they eliminated against the Cleveland Cavaliers . At the end of the season he was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team .
