Elhadji Tacko Serigne Diop "Tacko" Fall (born December 10, 1995 in Dakar ) is a Senegalese basketball player who currently plays for the Boston Celtics in the North American professional league NBA and for the Maine Red Claws in the NBA G-League  .

career

Fall first played soccer in his home country Senegal before turning to basketball as a student because of his height. Fall is the only person in his immediate family who has grown that tall. Only one of his uncles measures just over two meters. Fall's talent for basketball was discovered by the brother of the former Senegalese professional Mamadou N'Diaye. Falls father immigrated to the United States and settled in the state of Ohio .

At the age of 16, Fall went to the United States. After a chance failed to go to school in Texas and join the basketball team there, he ended up at the Liberty Christian Academy in Florida . Fall played basketball there for two years and his achievements made him eligible for a scholarship to the University of Central Florida . There he majored in computer science and played 115 games for the basketball team between 2015 and 2019. Fall achieved an average of 10.1 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.4 blocks per encounter. With a total of 280 blocked opposing throws, he took first place in the all-time best list of the UCF university team. His field throw rate of 74 percent was a new record, both at his university and in the entire first NCAA division. Fall was third on the UCF leaderboard with 887 rebounds when he graduated from college in 2019.

Despite his good performance at the University of Central Florida, he was given moderate prospects of being called in the NBA's draft process . Fall was ultimately not selected by any team, but signed by the Boston Celtics in the summer of 2019 . Although Fall hardly gets any working time in Boston and mostly plays in the Maine Red Claws training team in the NBA G-League , he became the favorite of Celtics fans. When he was substituted on for the Detroit Pistons on December 20, 2019 , the crowd celebrated him effusively.
