Jayson Tatum (born March 3, 1998 in St. Louis , Missouri ) is an American basketball player who plays for the Boston Celtics in the NBA .

career

In his senior high school season at Chaminade College Preparatory School (2015/16), Tatum was named "Player of the Year" in the state of Missouri .

Tatum joined Duke University for the 2016/17 season and immediately became a top performer of the "Blue Devils". He was in 29 games for Duke on the field and scored an average of 16.8 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.1 basket assists per game. In late March 2017, Tatum announced that he would be leaving Duke after just a year and starting his professional career. He signed up for the 2017 NBA draft . He was selected third by the Boston Celtics in the 2017 NBA Draft . With the injury of Gordon Hayward , Tatum took over his role on the starting line-up in his first year and subsequently contributed to the fact that the Celtics qualified for the playoffs. In the first year he scored 13.9 points, 5.0 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game in 80 encounters. This achievement was rewarded with an election to the NBA All-Rookie First Team .

National team

Tatum was U17 world champion with the US national team in 2014, and a year later he won the world title with the U19 team.
