Kenneth "Kenny" Smith (born March 8, 1965 in Queens , New York City ), also known by his nickname The Jet , is a former American basketball player who was active from 1987 to 1997 in the NBA .

Since 1998 he has been working as a commentator for the US television station TNT .

Career

Smith was selected sixth by the Houston Rockets in the 1987 NBA Draft . For his playful performance in his debut season, he was named to the All-Rookie First Team . In the 1994 and 1995 seasons, Smith won the NBA championship with the Rockets to Hakeem Olajuwon .

He was also a member of the US national basketball team, which won the 1986 World Cup in Spain .
