Allan Wade Houston (born April 20, 1971 in Louisville , Kentucky ) is a retired American basketball player . He played shooting guard for the Detroit Pistons and the New York Knicks in the NBA . In 2000 he was an Olympic champion with the United States basketball team .

High school and college

Houston played at Ballard High School in Louisville and won the Kentucky State Championship there in 1988. He later played at University of Tennessee , where his father was the team coach.

NBA

Houston was drafted in the 1993 NBA draft in 11th place by the Detroit Pistons .

After his rookie contract with Detroit Pistons ran out in 1996 , he went to the New York Knicks as a free agent . With the Knicks, Houston reached the NBA Finals in 1999, but lost the Knicks to the San Antonio Spurs . In 2000 and 2001 he was appointed to the All-Star Team .

Houston ended his NBA career in 2005 with a knee injury. In 2007 Allan Houston wanted to make another comeback, but his attempts failed.

In his 13-year-old won Houston more than 117,500,000 NBA career dollars on salaries and is one of the best paid players his playing days.
