Mark D. Blount (born November 30, 1975 in Dobbs Ferry , New York ) is an American basketball player . The 2.13 meter tall Blount plays the position of the center .

Blount was selected in the 1997 NBA Draft by the Seattle SuperSonics in 54th place, but was transferred to the Boston Celtics shortly thereafter . There he alternated with Tony Battie and Vitali Potapenko on the center position. Blount played almost continuously for the Celtics until the 2005/06 season (apart from a six-month interlude with the Denver Nuggets ) before he was transferred to the Minnesota Timberwolves and finally ended up with the Miami Heat in the 2007/08 season .

Blount is considered a throw-proof center who is good for 10 points per game and always hits about half of his throws. In the Heat, Blount also hit 17 of 44 throws from beyond the three-point line; this hit rate of more than 33% is very rare for a center. His defensive play and his below-average rebound work are considered weaknesses, since as a 2.13 meter tall player he collects less than 5 rebounds per game.
