Demetrius Antonio Battie (born February 11, 1976 in Dallas , Texas ) is a retired American basketball player who was active in the NBA for 15 years .

Career

Battie was selected by the Denver Nuggets in fifth place in the 1997 NBA Draft . He started 49 of 65 games and scored 8.4 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. In 1998 he was transferred to the Boston Celtics , for which he played for six years. In 2001–02 and 2002–03, the starting center was the Celtics.

After a short stint with the Cavaliers, they traded him to the Magic in 2004 for Anderson Varejão and Drew Gooden . With the Magic he stayed for five years, where he completely suspended the 2007-08 season due to a shoulder injury. In 2009 he reached the NBA final with the Magic, but where they lost to the Los Angeles Lakers .

In the same year he was transferred to New Jersey to the Nets with other players for Vince Carter and Ryan Anderson . In 2010 he signed a contract with the Philadelphia 76ers , where he also ended his career.

During his career, Battie averaged 6.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 0.9 blocks in 837 games.
