Richard Dean "Rick" Davis (born November 24, 1958 in Denver , Colorado ) is a retired American football player who played in midfield.
Davis played soccer at university and joined Cosmos New York in 1978 . There he played with Franz Beckenbauer and Pelé . Between 1984 and 1989 he played for several US clubs. In total, he played 373 times in the USA and scored 142 goals in the NASL .
In 1980, 1984 and 1988 he played for the US Olympic national teams.
Davis played 36 games (7 goals) for the US national team .
For fans and experts, he is considered the first American footballer to have international class.
