Colby Daniel Lopez (born May 28, 1986 in Buffalo , Iowa ), better known by his ring names Seth Rollins and Tyler Black , is an American wrestler . He is currently under contract with the WWE and appears in their shows. His greatest successes so far are the receipt of the WWE Championship and the Universal Championship , as well as the completion of the Grand Slam .

Wrestling career

Independent Leagues (2005-2009)

Lopez was trained by Danny Daniels and made his debut on February 5, 2005 as Gixx at a National Wrestling Alliance event . Lopéz later appeared as Tyler Black. This was followed by engagements at various independent promotions (including IWA Mid-South , Pro Wrestling Guerrilla , Full Impact Pro or AAW: Professional Wrestling Redefined ). On October 15, 2005 he won his first title at IWA Mid-South , the IWA Mid-South Light Heavyweight Championship in a match against Josh Abercrombie. He gave the title back on January 21, 2006.

Before that, he and Marek Brave formed the tag team The Black And The Brave . With this Lopez won the vacant NWA Midwest Tag Team Championship on September 17, 2005 , which they only handed over to the team of Brett Young and Hype Gotti on May 5, 2006.

Ring of Honor (2007-2010)

On October 5, 2007, Lopez made his first appearance on Ring of Honor (ROH). There he first formed the team The Age Of The Fall with Jimmy Jacobs and Necro Butcher . This was later joined by a few other wrestlers. From September 2007 the stable feuded against the Briscoes (Jay Briscoe and Mark Briscoe). In the course of this feud, Lopez and Jacobs won the ROH World Tag Team Championship at the end of December 2007 at the ROH Final Battle 2007 , which they gave on January 26, 2008 to No Remorse Corps ( Davey Richards and Rocky Romero ).

On June 6th, 2008 they were allowed to win the titles of Kevin Steen and El Generico again to give them back on September 19th. In September 2008, after a year, the bloody feud against the Briscoes ended with a defeat for The Age Of The Fall in a Steel Cage Warfare Elimination match at the ROH event Glory by Honor VII . In February 2009 , Lopez left the stable and played a few matches against his former allies in the period that followed.

After he had already won several individual titles in various independent promotions , he received the ROH World Championship from Austin Aries on February 13, 2010 at the ROH 8th Anniversary Show , which was his greatest success to date. On September 11, 2010, he gave the title to Roderick Strong due to the impending move to WWE .

World Wrestling Entertainment (since 2010)

Florida Championship Wrestling and NXT (2010-2012)

In August 2010 it was announced that Lopez had signed a development contract with the WWE . In the WWE he was first used in Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) and then appeared under his new ring name Seth Rollins (based on the singer and actor Henry Rollins ). On December 7, 2010 Lopez played a dark match at SmackDown against Cody Rhodes , which he lost . At FCW he formed a tag team with Richie Steamboat . With this together Lopez received on March 25, 2011 the FCW Florida Tag Team Championship from Damien Sandow and Titus O'Neil . They gave the title on May 12, 2011 to Big E Langston and Calvin Raines.

On February 23, 2012 he won the FCW Florida Heavyweight Championship from Leo Kruger . He lost this on June 8, 2012 after FCW was no longer the WWE Development League and all titles were discontinued. Instead, he received the newly created NXT Championship on July 26th, on records of the new development league NXT , after defeating Jinder Mahal in the final of the Gold Rush tournament . He gave the title to Big E Langston on December 6, 2012 after his promotion to the main grid at NXT Records.

Main roster debut with The Shield (2012-2014)

On November 18, 2012 Lopez made his debut alongside Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns as The Shield at the Survivor Series , when they attacked Ryback in his triple-threat match for the WWE Championship against champion CM Punk and John Cena and so for punks Title defense ensured. This laid the foundation for a six-man tag team TLC match of The Shield against Ryback and Team Hell No ( Daniel Bryan and Kane ) at the following major WWE TLC event : Tables, Ladders & Chairs , which they own were allowed to decide.

In the period that followed, the stable attacked various WWE Superstars (including The Rock ) and several teams, some of which were WWE Superstars, tried unsuccessfully to defeat The Shield in a six-man tag team match " honest “way to defeat (by pinfall or abandonment ). On May 19, 2013 won Lopez together with Roman Reigns at Extreme Rules , the WWE Tag Team Championship from Team Hell No . On 11 June 2013 lost The Shield on Smackdown against Bryan, Kane and Randy Orton for the first time a six-man tag team match after Lopez in a submission hold had to knock off Bryan.

As of August 2013, The Shield belonged to the authoritarian stable The Authority, along with Triple H , Stephanie McMahon and Orton, among others . During this time feuded Lopez with Reigns and Ambrose against The Usos (Jimmy and Jey Uso), The Prime Time Players ( Darren Young and Titus O'Neil ) and the Rhodes Brothers ( Cody Rhodes and Goldust ). Lopez and Reigns had to surrender the WWE Tag Team Championship to the latter on October 14, 2013 after 148 days of title reign in a no-disqualification match on Raw after the members of The Shield had been attacked by Big Show .

In March 2014 , The Shield left the Authority after attacking Kane, now also a member, on a Raw edition. As a result, they initially feuded against Kane and The New Age Outlaws ( Billy Gunn and Road Dogg ), who they were able to defeat at WrestleMania XXX . The subsequent feud against the Stable Evolution , consisting of Triple H, Randy Orton and Batista , was won by the trio at Payback on June 1, 2014.

The following day, the Evolution, which now only consists of Orton and Triple H, confronted The Shield again on Raw . Lopez then attacked his teammates from behind with a chair, leaving The Shield and rejoining the Authority , this time alone .

At Money in the Bank on June 29, 2014 in Boston , Lopez won the Money-in-the-Bank ladder match with the help of Kane - who intervened in his favor and prevented Dean Ambrose from unhooking the suitcase - which he got through a one-year contract guaranteed a match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at any time . From November 2014, Lopez was accompanied to the ring at every match by the two former wrestlers Joey Mercury and Jamie Noble , who appeared as J&J Security .

Then feuded he against his former The Shield -Kameraden Ambrose, whom he in a Lumberjack Match at SummerSlam defeated on August 17, 2014. Lopez also won a subsequent feud against Reigns and another match against Ambrose at Hell in a Cell .

Since November 2014 he played a program against John Cena . In the course of this feud, he first took part in a traditional Survivor Series match at the event of the same name on November 23 , which he lost as Team Authority with Rusev , Kane , Luke Harper and Mark Henry against Team Cena . Later in the storyline , Lopez was added to a match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at the Royal Rumble on January 25, 2015 against champion Brock Lesnar and Cena. However, he was not allowed to win the title at this point.

Rollins redeemed his money-in-the-bank contract at WrestleMania 31 and won the WWE Championship .

This was followed by a feud against Randy Orton, to whom he was defeated at WrestleMania 31 on March 29, 2015. On the same day he was allowed to redeem his money-in-the-bank contract during a match between Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship and win the title.

This was followed by title defenses against Orton, Reigns, Ambrose and Lesnar, which were linked to further feuds, but Lopez was all allowed to keep his title. At SummerSlam on August 23, 2015 , he defeated John Cena in a winner-takes-it-all match and was thus able to win the WWE United States Championship . However, he lost this title again to Cena at Night of Champions on September 20, but defended the WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Sting .

On 4 November, Lopez moved into a match against Kane at a house show a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament, medial collateral ligament and meniscus in his right knee and therefore fell for several months. The WWE World Heavyweight Championship was then declared vacant . In December 2015, Lopez was voted Superstar of the year by fans at the Slammy Awards .

Return after injury and feud against Triple H (2016-2017)

On May 22, 2016, Colby Lopez made his surprising comeback at Extreme Rules when he attacked his former The Shield partner Roman Reigns , who now owned the WWE World Heavyweight Championship , after defending his title against AJ Styles . This was followed by a feud against Reigns, which resulted in a title match at Money in the Bank on June 19, which Lopez won and won the title for the second time. However, he lost it a few moments later to Dean Ambrose , who redeemed the money-in-the-bank contract he had won the same evening . On July 24, 2016, Lopez could not win a triple threat match against his former The Shield colleagues Ambrose and Reigns for the title at Battleground .

The WWE Draft on July 19, 2016 made Lopez the first draft pick part of Raw . After Ambrose was drafted at this event including the renamed WWE World Championship after SmackDown , he was allowed to play a match for the newly introduced WWE Universal Championship against Finn Bálor , who had previously qualified, at SummerSlam on August 21, 2016 . He lost this, however.

In the August 29 edition of Raw, Lopez was given another chance at the now vacant WWE Universal Championship in a fatal four-way elimination match against Kevin Owens , Big Cass and Roman Reigns , after Bálor battled it out at SummerSlam injured his shoulder and had to give up the title. However, he failed to win this match either after being attacked during the match by his former ally Triple H , who gave Owens the win.

On November 20, 2016, Lopez competed in a traditional Survivor Series match against Team SmackDown as part of Team Raw . The Shield was briefly reunited when the retired Team SmackDown member Ambrose attacked AJ Styles together with Reigns and Lopez. Ultimately, however, Team Raw lost the match.

Lopez feuded since late August 2016, following the lost four-way match against Kevin Owens to the WWE Championship universal , but could the title both in Clash of Champions on September 25, as well as Hell in a Cell on October 30, respectively, by Interventions by Chris Jericho in favor of Owens do not win. On December 18, 2016, Lopez won a match against Jericho in Roadblock: End of the Line .

In the January 30, 2017 edition of Raw, Lopez tore his right knee again when he was attacked by Samoa Joe and had to pause for almost eight weeks. Even so, he made several appearances on Raw during this time. On April 2, 2017, WrestleMania 33 had a non-sanctioned match against Triple H , which Lopez was allowed to win.

After WrestleMania 33 , the already hinted feud against Samoa Joe was taken up again. On April 30, 2017, he defeated him in a single match at the next major event, Payback . On June 4, 2017 Lopez was at Extreme Rules in a match against Bálor, Reigns, Joe and Bray Wyatt , whose winner Samoa Joe was declared the main challenger to the WWE Universal Championship by title holder Brock Lesnar .

Reunited with The Shield and feud against Dean Ambrose (2017-2019)

In the July 10, 2017 edition of Raw , Lopez came to the aid of his companion Dean Ambrose when he was attacked by his rival The Miz and his allies Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel . This started a storyline about the reconciliation of the two in the following weeks. As a result, the two began a feud against WWE Raw Tag Team Championship titleholders Cesaro and Sheamus . On August 20, 2017, Lopez and Ambrose were allowed to win the titles from them at SummerSlam . In the October 9, 2017 edition of Raw, Roman Reigns rejoined his old allies, completing the reunification of The Shield . For the major event TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs on October 22, 2017, a handicap TLC match was held between the members of The Shield on the one hand and The Miz, Cesaro, Sheamus, Braun Strowman and Kane on the other Page built. A few days earlier, however, Reigns had to be replaced by Kurt Angle due to illness , which - at that time - prevented The Shield's first match after the Stables returned.

On November 6, 2017, Lopez and Ambrose returned the WWE Raw Tag Team Championship to The Bar (Cesaro and Sheamus) on Raw . The reason for the title loss was a sudden appearance of actually the roster of Smackdown Live belonging Stables The New Day (consisting of Big E , Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods ) in the audience. This initiated a six-man tag team match between the two teams at the Survivor Series on November 19, 2017, which The Shield won.

At Wrestlemania 34 on April 8, 2018, Rollins competed in a multi-man match in which the Intercontinental Champion The Miz was also involved. Seth Rollins won this match, making him the new Intercontinental Champion . On April 27, the Greatest Royal Rumble took place in Saudi Arabia . At this PPV Rollins had another match for the Intercontinental Championship , this time a ladder match . In the end, it almost looked like Finn Bálor would win the title, but then Rollins got his turn, jumped from the top ring rope onto the ladder and grabbed the championship before Bàlor could even reach the belt. Rollins was allowed to keep the title until June 18, when Dolph Ziggler defeated him in a title match on Raw and became the new champion.

SummerSlam , one of the Big Four PPVs , took place on August 19th . There Rollins again had a match against Dolph Ziggler for the WWE Intercontinental Championship . At his side was Dean Ambrose , who returned from the August 13th edition of RAW . Drew McIntyre stood by Ziggler's side . At the end of the match, Ziggler wanted to do a super kick, but Rollins countered with a school boy super kick . This was followed by the curb stomp and Rollins won the title for the second time.

The October 22nd edition of RAW featured a Raw Tag Team Championship match between Dean Ambrose and Rollins against reigning Tag Team champions Dolph Ziggler and Drew McIntyre . Rollins and Ambrose won in the end and dedicated the victory to their Shield colleague Roman Reigns , who had recently announced that he was actually suffering from leukemia again and would therefore have to take a longer break. After the match, however, followed what many fans had suspected since Ambrose's return: he attacked Seth Rollins after their joint victory. This also meant the end of the new edition of The Shield .

The November 5th edition of RAW saw a 2-on-1 handicap match between Seth Rollins and the Authors of Pain . Seth Rollins lost that match and the Authors of Pain were named new Tag Team Champions . A week later, a video segment was shown on RAW in which Ambrose burned his shield vest , which again made it clear that The Shield has separated again. In the weeks that followed, a feud developed between Rollins and Ambrose. At the PPV TLC on December 16, 2018, there was a match between the two for Rollins' WWE Intercontinental Championship , which Ambrose won.

Royal Rumble victory and two-time Universal Champion (since 2019)

At the PPV Royal Rumble on January 27, 2019, Rollins won the men's Royal Rumble Match . With that he secured a title match at WrestleMania 35 . Finally, in the February 11th issue of RAW, it was officially confirmed that Rollins had challenged then Universal Champion Brock Lesnar . At WrestleMania 35 he was finally able to secure the Universal Championship on April 7, 2019 by beating Lesnar.

His first title defense was against AJ Styles at Money in the Bank , a match that Rollins won. On June 7, 2019, he again defended his title against Baron Corbin on WWE Super ShowDown. On June 23, 2019 he played another match against Baron Corbin for his title, which he won again. On July 14, 2019, he defended his title together with Becky Lynch in a Mixed Tag Team Extreme Rules Winners Take All Match against Baron Corbin and Lacey Evans . Lynch 's Raw Women's Championship was also at stake in this match. Shortly thereafter, however, he lost the title after a reign of 98 days after Brock Lesnar successfully redeemed his Money in the Bank suitcase. On August 11, 2019, he won the Universal Championship back from Lesnar.

On August 19, 2019, he and Braun Strowman won the Raw Tag Team Championship from The OC Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson . They lost the title to Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode after 27 days on September 15, 2019 . On the same night he defended his Universal Championship against Braun Strowman. On October 6, 2019, he lost a Hell In A Cell match via DQ after attempting to obliterate Bray Wyatt . This was a match for his Universal Championship, but he didn't lose the title. On October 31, 2019, he lost the title in a Falls Count Anywhere match against Bray Wyatt at Crown Jewel in Riyadh , Saudi Arabia . On November 24, 2019, he played a Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match against Braun Strowman, Roman Reigns , Mustafa Ali, King Corbin , Shorty G. , Damian Priest, Matt at the WWE Survivor Series together with Drew McIntyre , Ricochet , Kevin Owens and Randy Orton Riddle, Keith Lee, WALTER and Tommaso Ciampa . He lost that match.

On January 20, 2020, he and Buddy Murphy won the Raw Tag Team Championship , for which they defeated The Viking Raiders Erik & Ivar. They lost the title to The Street Profits Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford on March 2, 2020 after 42 days of reign.
