ROH Tag Team Championship (until 2006) |
The ROH World Tag Team Championship (in German Ring of Honor World Team Championship ) is a wrestling title that Ring of Honor awards to tag teams . As is common in wrestling , the award is based on a previously determined storyline .
history
The title was introduced as the ROH Tag Team Championship on September 21, 2002 at the ROH Unscripted Ring of Honor event in Philadelphia , PA . The title was awarded in a tournament that the Prophecy, consisting of Christopher Daniels and Donovan Morgan, won in the final against the American Dragon and Michael Modest. Since the still young doctorate did not have a title belt at that time, Daniels and Morgan were presented with a special trophy. The title was the highest tag team title in the league.
On July 9, 2006, the "ROH Tag Team Championship" was renamed "ROH World Tag Team Championship" and made a world title. The background was a title match between the champions Generation Next ( Austin Aries and Roderick Strong) against Naruki Doi and Masato Yoshino at a show of the Japanese wrestling promotion Dragon Gate in Tokyo . The title was later defended in other locations outside the United States, e.g. B. in England.
In spring 2010 the title belts got a new design.
Current title holders
The current holders of the ROH World Tag Team Championship are Jay Lethal and John Gresham . They defeated the previous Briscoe Brothers, Jay and Mark Briscoe, in their eleventh reign as a tag team, at Final Battle 2019 on December 13, 2019 in Baltimore , Maryland .
