The Hardy Boyz is the name of Wrestling - Tag Teams comprised of brothers Matt and Jeff Hardy is currently the market leader and World Wrestling Entertainment under contract.

Career

Independent area

In 1993 the brothers started to compete as a tag team for the first time. For this purpose, they founded the fictional wrestling organization Trampoline Wrestling Federation (TWF) in their parents' garden . In 1997, both brothers founded a real wrestling organization called the Organization of Modern Extreme Grappling Arts (OMEGA for short), which worked with various other independent leagues. Therefore the Hardy brothers were allowed to hold the OMEGA Tag Team Championship and the NWA 2000 Tag Team Championship . The OMEGA promotion emerged from the East Coast Championship Wrestling (ECCW) wrestling league co-founded by the Hardys .

World Wrestling Entertainment

The Hardy Boyz as WWE / WWF World Tag Team Champions.

In 1998 both signed a contract with the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE ) and initially worked there as jobbers . Some time later, the Hardys were turned into serious challengers to the WWF Tag Team title and they were given Michael Hayes as manager. On June 29, 1999 they were allowed to win the tag team title for the first time . After separating the team from Hayes, both were made members of the group The New Brood in August 1999 .

They played the first tag team leader match against Edge and Christian at the major event No Mercy . From 2000, Matt and Jeff were renamed Team Xtreme and Lita was their companion. The new team name was based on the extreme high-flying actions that the Hardys regularly carried out.

At the same time, the Hardys were in a feud program with Edge & Christian and the Dudley Boyz involved, as a result, the Tables, Ladders and Chairs (may be a Matchart, used in the tables, ladders and chairs) -Match was introduced. At Unforgiven 2000 they received the Tag Team title again and were allowed to hold them three more times within this feud program.

On October 8, 2001, she received the WCW World Tag Team Championship , which now belonged just like the WCW itself, to WWE. In 2002 the team split up. Matt Hardy became SmackDown! traded and Jeff Hardy was fired a short time later for refusing to seek help with his drug problem. Meanwhile, Jeff spent some time at Independent Promotions events and then at TNA before being hired again by WWE in 2006. There was a short reformation of the team, which was allowed to win the World Tag Team Championship for the last time in April 2007 .

After that, both were built up as individual wrestlers, which peaked at the end of 2008, because both Matt ( ECW ) and Jeff ( WWE ) were able to hold a world title during this time. Starting with the Royal Rumble in January 2009, the two feuded against each other, which culminated at WrestleMania 25 . After the WWE Draft 2009, where Matt moved from SmackDown to RAW, there was another match at Backlash . Still, Matt prevented his brother from becoming the new World Heavyweight Champion at Judgment Day on May 17, 2009 . After a trade in June 2009 where Matt switched back to SmackDown, the Hardys reunited in August that year for a feud against CM Punk . This ended quickly, however, as Jeff left the WWE in September 2009 and took a break.

Total non-stop action wrestling

After Jeff returned to TNA on January 4, 2010, Matt followed suit on January 9, 2011 with his Genesis debut . There was another reunion of the two, and both were part of the Immortal Stables around Hulk Hogan . On August 20, 2011, Matt was fired from TNA, which ended their time there. While Matt Hardy appeared for other leagues, especially Ring of Honor, Jeff Hardy appeared at TNA as a single wrestler and was able to win the TNA World Heavyweight Championship three times at that time . On July 24, 2014, as part of an edition of Impact Wrestling, Matt Hardy returned to TNA and reunited the Hardy Boyz, who appeared as The Hardys and who were immediately involved in the action for the TNA World Tag Team Championship . They committed a feud against TNA World Tag Team Champions The Wolves ( Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards ) and Team 3D for the TNA World Tag Team Championship . TNA General Manager Kurt Angle announced a best of three series for the title. The Wolves won this series and thus defended their titles. Since the Wolves had to resign their title due to an injury to Eddie Edwards, a tournament for the vacant TNA World Tag Team Championship took place. The Hardy Boyz won the tournament, securing the TNA World Tag Team Championship for the first time . Jeff Hardy was injured on May 8, 2015 and the Hardys had to resign.

During Jeff Hardy's break, Matt Hardy continued to fight as a single wrestler. As a single wrestler, he was able to secure the TNA World Heavyweight Championship twice . After Matt Hardy's loss of the title, he feuded against his brother Jeff Hardy, whom he blamed for the loss of the title. At the Impact Wrestling edition on April 19, 2016, an I Quit match between the two ended in a draw. After that match, Matt Hardy was written off the shows. On May 17, 2016, Matt Hardy returned with a new gimmick and continued as Broken Matt Hardy . Matt formed a stable with his wife Reby, son Maxell, and father-in-law, Senior Benjamin. He continued his feud against Jeff Hardy. On July 5, 2016, he defeated Jeff Hardy in Final Deletion . After the feud, Jeff Hardy joined his brother's stable and therefore appeared as Brother Nero. The Hardys henceforth as The Broken Hardys .

The Broken Hardys committed a feud against Decay ( Abyss and Crazzy Steve and Rosemary). On October 2, 2016 at Bound for Glory , they won the TNA World Tag Team Championship from Decay . For the September 1st edition of Impact, the Broken Hardys put on a show on their property called The Final Deletion , where they successfully defended their titles against Decay. The show was well received by wrestling fans worldwide and the two brothers' gimmick became increasingly popular. During their title reign, the Broken Hardys committed a storyline in which they aim to win all the tag team titles in the world. They appeared in other wrestling leagues that worked with TNA and fought for their tag team title. In the course of the storyline, the Broken Hardys were able to win the Crash Tag Team Championship from the Mexican wrestling league The Crash, the MCW Tag Team Championship from a wrestling league from Maryland and the OMEGA Tag Team Championship from OMEGA Championship Wrestling.

When TNA got new owners, problems arose with the brothers and the new owners of TNA. Since the Hardy's contracts were expiring and the Hardys included special clauses in their contracts, such as creative freedom and appearances for other wrestling leagues, the new leadership behind TNA wanted the Hardys to sign new contracts, but without these clauses. The Hardys refused, however, so they did not renew their contracts and left TNA. The TNA World Tag Team Championship was then declared vacant. Since TNA maintained a partnership with The Crash and MCW Pro Wrestling, the Crash Tag Team Championship and MCW Tag Team Championship were also taken away from them . The OMEGA Tag Team Championship , however, was not taken from them, as Matt Hardy is one of the owners of OMEGA Championship Wrestling.

Even after her departure, the disagreements continued. The reason for this is the rights to the gimmicks of the Broken Hardys, which concerns not only the tag team name, but also the names Broken Matt (the ring name of Matt Hardy) and Brother Nero (Jeff's ring name). Only the ring name of Matt Hardy's father-in-law Senio Benjamin is not affected because he was never under contract with TNA. Both sides claim the rights to use the Broken Hardys characters. A legal dispute about the use of the gimmick is currently following.

Ring of Honor

After the Hardys had already announced their departure from TNA on Twitter, they appeared at the Ring of Honor on March 4, 2017 , where they were allowed to challenge The Young Bucks and take the ROH World Tag Team Championship from them. On April 1, 2017 at Supercard of Honor XI , they lost the title again to the Young Bucks. Which was also her last appearance in the independent scene.

During their title win, the Hardys performed under the popular gimmick The Broken Hardys . After the appearance, Impact Wrestling, which was previously known as Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA for short), sued ROH and the Hardys, as Impact Wrestling demanded the rights of the Broken Hardys gimmicks for themselves. Because of this lawsuit, the brothers reappeared as The Hardys.

Return to the WWE

On April 2, 2017, the Hardy Boyz returned to the WWE at the major event WrestleMania 33 . In a Fatal Four Way Tag Team Ladder Match against Karl Anderson & Luke Gallows , The Bar Cesaro & Sheamus and Big Cass & Enzo Amore , the "Hardy Boyz" won the Raw Tag Team Championship . They lost these titles to The Bar Cesaro & Sheamus on June 4, 2017 after 63 days of reign .

On April 9, 2019, the Hardy Boyz won in the first Smackdown issue after the big event WrestleMania 35 , the Smackdown Tag Team Championship from The Usos . The reign ended after 21 days, because you gave up the title due to an injury to Jeff. Matt Hardy left the company on March 1, 2020 because he did not renew his expiring contract.
