Hardy played baseball when he was young but had to quit after falling and injuring his arm during a motocross race. He also played American football during his high school years. He had to quit after being told to choose between wrestling and American football. Hardy's favorite subjects at school were history and art.
Wrestling career
Beginnings
Matt and Jeff Hardy have been huge wrestling fans since childhood. As adolescents both began with the "backyard wrestling". The Hardys founded their own wrestling promotion, with which they and their friends gained their first experience in front of a larger audience. A little later, Hardy received his first engagements in some regional associations of the independent scene .
In 1993, at the age of 16, Hardy signed a development contract with what was then WWF . However, in order to compete there, he posed as an 18-year-old. He was trained by Dory Funk Jr., among others. Hardy appeared in parallel to his involvement in the WWF but continued in the US independent scene.
World Wrestling Federation / Entertainment (1998-2003)
He and his brother Matt initially formed a tag team . Both became known to a larger WWF audience as members of the "Brood", the Stables of David Heath ("Gangrel"). They feuded against Edge and Christian . Hardy won with his brother Matt - during the integration time of World Championship Wrestling in the WWF (2001) - several times the WCW Tag Team Title .
In 2004, a WWE drug test on Hardy showed positive results. He was subsequently written off the storyline with an "injury" and was later fired by the WWE for lack of insight.
Ring of Honor Wrestling (2003)
Hardy made his Ring of Honor wrestling debut in 2003.
Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (2004-2006)
After his WWE release, Hardy was signed to Total Nonstop Action Wrestling in 2004 . But at TNA Wrestling he was rarely used, because there were numerous problems with him. For example, Hardy appeared several times for not scheduled matches .
Return to WWE 2006-2009
In August 2006, Hardy signed another contract with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and was now used there in the TV format RAW . In October of the same year he won the Intercontinental title from Johnny Nitro (John Morrison) . From this a feud developed between the two, in which the title changed back and forth several times. On November 21, 2006 the reunification of the Hardy Boyz took place at the ECW and on February 19, 2007 he lost the Intercontinental title during a RAW recording to Umaga . But already on April 2nd of the same year the Hardys won the WWE World Tag Team title in a specially set up "10-Man-Tag-Team-Battle-Royal". Both lost on June 4th to Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch .
In early August 2007, Hardy was suspended from the WWE for 30 days after falling through the official drug policy of the promotion again. On August 27, 2007 Hardy's ban was lifted early and this gave his ring comeback at RAW against Mr. Kennedy . A week later, he won the Intercontinental title back from Umaga.
At the major WWE Survivor Series event , Hardy took part in the only Survivor Series Eliminations Match , from which he and Triple H emerged victorious.
In the RAW special WrestleMania Rewind , Hardy lost his Intercontinental title to Chris Jericho on March 10, 2008 and shortly afterwards he was again suspended by the WWE for a repeated violation of the drug ordinance for 60 days. In May 2008 Hardy returned to current ring events and on June 23, 2008 he was used in the Friday TV format SmackDown .
At the WWE major event Armageddon , Hardy won the WWE Championship for the first time on December 14, 2008 , but he lost it again on January 25, 2009 at the major Royal Rumble event .
On June 7, 2009 at Extreme Rules , Hardy von Edge won the World Heavyweight Championship title in a ladder match . Only about three minutes later he lost it again to CM Punk . Hardy got the title back from CM Punk on July 26th, 2009 when he defeated it at the big event Night of Champions . At SummerSlam on August 23, 2009 he lost the title in a TLC match again to CM Punk. On August 28, 2009, Hardy played his rematch in a steelcage match for the WHC , which was held under the motto The Loser Leaves WWE between himself and CM Punk at SmackDown . After losing to CM Punk, Hardy left WWE.
Since Hardy was considered very rebellious behind the scenes and continued to be intransigent due to his numerous drug and medication problems, the WWE began to write this again from the current storyline. At the same time, Hardy announced on his Twitter page that he had been taking a wrestling break for a long time and now wanted to devote himself to other projects.
