history

The Impact Wrestling Set (2013-2014).

For the first time, TNA became iMPACT! aired on June 4, 2004 on Fox Sports Net (FSN). The show was recorded on Tuesdays at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida and aired on Fridays between 4 and 5 p.m. on FSN in most markets (including Europe and Asia). They paid $ 30,000 a week for an hour of airtime. On May 27, 2005, the final episode of Impact aired on Fox Sports Net. The show achieved an average audience rating of just 0.2 during the broadcast .

TNA was now without a TV deal and therefore worked with RealNetworks from July 1, 2005 to broadcast Impact from the official website with RealPlayer . In addition, the download of Impact with BitTorrent has been released. At the same time they began to look for a more profitable distribution channel on TV. At first there were negotiations with WGN, but no agreement was reached. On July 21st, the contract with Spike TV was announced, the first broadcast was set for Saturday, October 1st, 2005 as part of the so-called "Slammin 'Saturday Night" block. From September 27, 2005 to March 28, 2006, two episodes of Impact were recorded every other Tuesday . Unlike the deal with Fox Sports, TNA didn't have to pay for the airtime; but Spike TV was allowed to sell the advertising time. However, after Spike TV announced on February 6, 2006 that TNA would receive a prime-time slot, it was announced on March 14 that Impact would instead air on Thursdays at 11:00 pm after the UFC show "The Ultimate Fighter". The rerun has been postponed to 11:00 p.m. on Saturday. Due to the new air time, the episodes were recorded every other Monday, beginning April 10, 2006. The penultimate Saturday episode of Impact on April 1, 2006 aired against the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony on the USA Network , making TNA and WWE programs run simultaneously for the first time. This episode achieved the worst rating since November 2005. The move to a slot at 9:00 pm was announced again in September 2006 and was carried out on November 16 with a 2-hour special edition. However, Impact was broadcast again at normal airtime a week later. The contract with Spike TV expired at the end of September 2007, but an agreement was reached again. Since October 4, 2007, TNA has been broadcasting its main program for two hours. The TNA recording rhythm was very irregular at that time. Most of the time, the impact broadcasts were recorded within a few days before a pay-per-view. In April 2006, TNA announced a partnership with YouTube , whereby YouTube exclusive video material, such as. B. Publish summaries of Impact .

For the first time live, TNA iMPACT! transferred on March 27, 2008. A live show on Monday evening took place on January 4, 2010, at which Hulk Hogan made his GFW debut. From March 8, 2010, it was broadcast live every Monday and every two weeks; parallel to the TV competition RAW . Due to poor audience ratings, however, on May 13, 2010 they switched back to Thursday evening. From then on, the show was usually recorded every two weeks on Mondays and Tuesdays.

In the May 12, 2011 edition, TNA iMPACT! officially renamed Impact Wrestling . On May 17, 2012, TNA President Dixie Carter and Spike TV President Kevin Kay announced that Impact Wrestling would be broadcast live from Universal Studios in Orlando on Spike TV on Thursdays from May 31, 2012, at least all summer long. Impact Wrestling can also be seen from 8 p.m. US time. Initially, the live broadcast was planned until August 2012, but has since been extended. As of March 14, 2013, the show will no longer take place in Universal Studios, but in venues that change every week across the United States and occasionally abroad. In 2015, GFW was broadcast on Destination America and from 2016 on Pop TV.

On German television

GFW is also a known in Germany Wrestling - Promotion . After the show was initially broadcast by Eurosport , on February 20, 2008 Sky Deutschland (then premiere) announced the broadcast of Impact Wrestling in a message. From April 4, the weekly shows were broadcast every Monday at 5.45 p.m. on Sky Sport 2, each with a week difference to the US programs. From February 2011 on, Impact ran every Tuesday at 11 a.m. (repetitions at 5:30 p.m. and 10 p.m.), and from August 2, 2011 also at 4:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. The monthly Pay-Per-Views were shown live on Sky Select from June 2008 for a fee of 15 euros. The current impact show before a pay-per-view was then offered to all Sky subscribers two hours prior to this on Sky Select without any additional charge. The contract between TNA and Sky expired on January 1, 2013. From March 6, 2013 to March 1, 2014, Impact Wrestling was broadcast as a one-hour highlight format, initially on Wednesdays and later on Saturdays at 10 p.m. on Sport1 . The station replaced its previous wrestling program consisting of SmackDown and WWE BottomLine . In addition, Sport1 offered an extensive video-on-demand offering with highlights and live events on its website; u. a. the unabridged, two-hour edition of Impact Wrestling and monthly three-hour special events. The three major events "TNA Lockdown", "TNA Slammiversary" and "TNA Bound for Glory" were made available there in 2013 as live streams . From February 28, 2015, Impact Wrestling was provisionally broadcast on DMAX until April. There is currently no broadcast on German television.

concept

As usual in wrestling, the entire content of the program is determined by storylines worked out in advance . As a rule, four to seven matches are played over the course of the two-hour show, and it also includes interviews, promos and backstage segments. The female wrestlers are referred to as knockouts at TNA , and the organizer is Hulk Hogan's daughter Brooke .

At the beginning times on Fox Sports Net, the matches were subject to a time limit of 10 minutes, tag team matches and the main event 20 minutes. In the event of an overrun, the winner was determined by a “Championship Committee” consisting of three more experienced wrestlers. After leaving the station, the concept of time limits was discarded.

More shows

In addition to Impact Wrestling , Spike TV also broadcasts the one-hour B-Show TNA Xplosion , in which the wrestlers less used in the main show appear. Another former show is TNA Re-Action , which was broadcast after Impact and where wrestlers gave their opinions on the issue. The show ran from April 12 to December 30, 2010. In March 2013, the German broadcaster Sport1 broadcast a best-of program following Impact Wrestling , which summarized what was happening at Impact Wrestling from early 2013 to March 2013 for German viewers .
