The WWF Light Heavyweight Championship was a light heavyweight title of the wrestling organization WWE and was only awarded to wrestlers with a maximum weight of 97.5 kg (215 lbs ). At the end of 1997, the WWF wanted to set up its own Light Heavyweight Division and introduced the championship. In 2001, X-Pac sustained an injury. The title was then discontinued and replaced by the WCW Cruiserweight Championship . As is common in wrestling, the result is determined in advance and the award was made according to a previously determined storyline .

history

At the end of 1997 the WWF wanted to set up its own Light Heavyweight Division. After the title was presented, the first WWF Light Heavyweight Champion was determined in a tournament . On December 7, 1997, Taka Michinoku won the tournament against Brian Christopher and became the first title holder.

After the purchase of WCW , the WCW Cruiserweight Championship was defended within the WWE . A title association at the Survivor Series event against the then WCW Cruiserweight Champion Tajiri was canceled because X-Pac sustained an injury. The WWE then adopted the WCW Cruiserweight Championship as its own version of the Cruiserweight Championship and discontinued the WWF Light Heavyweight Championship .
