Eric Aaron Bischoff (born May 27, 1955 in Detroit , Michigan ) is an American wrestling promoter. He became known as the storyline president of World Championship Wrestling . He lives in Scottsdale , Arizona , is married with two children.

Career

American Wrestling Association (1987 to 1989)

In 1987 Eric Bischoff started working for Verne Gagne , owner of the American Wrestling Association . At first he was only active in sales. But when Gene Okerlund , the interviewer of the AWA at the time, left the AWA for the WWF, Bischoff was appointed as a replacement. He remained loyal to Gagne until the fall of the AWA.

World Championship Wrestling (1990 to 2001)

At the beginning of the 1990s he started as a third commentator in the NWA , but only made a few appearances. Since the NWA was in the red year after year, the storyline says several presidents were fired until Bischoff finally took over this role.

Under his leadership, World Championship Wrestling was able to separate from the NWA and for a long time offer competition to the then largest wrestling promotion, the World Wrestling Federation : for around 1.5 years, the TV show WCW Monday Nitro clearly prevailed over WWF RAW and almost drove the WWF into bankruptcy. At that time people spoke of the “Monday Night Wars” because of the simultaneous broadcasts of the shows Monday Night Raw by WWF and Monday Nitro by WCW.

The WCW was able to hold its own against the WWF for a while and even dominate it in some cases, but then it went under due to a series of wrong decisions and effects of the takeover of the station TBS by Time Warner and later by AOL and was subsequently bought up by the WWF.

WWE (2002 to 2007)

After the takeover, Bischoff became an employee of World Wrestling Entertainment in 2002 and has now been given the post of General Manager (GM) of RAW. As general manager, he had feuds with Stone Cold Steve Austin , John Cena , Stephanie McMahon and Paul Heyman . In 2005, however, Bischoff decided to give up this role and was fired as an explanation in the storyline by Vince McMahon and removed from the arena with the help of a garbage truck.

On September 25, 2006, Bischoff stepped on the scene again and presented his new book Controversy Creates Cash at the RAW event that took place on the same day . On November 5th he was selected as referee in a match between the D-Generation X and Rated RKO ( Edge and Randy Orton ) at the PPV Cyber Sunday by the vote of the audience .

On November 6, 2006, he was general manager of RAW for an edition. In 2007 he made two other appearances on RAW editions.

Hulkamania and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (since 2009)

Bischoff (2010) at TNA

There he has been working behind the scenes as an executive producer since January 4th, 2010. In front of the TV cameras, Bischoff was also a member of the Immortal group , which he ran with Hulk Hogan. He acted as a kind of general manager of TNA until October 16, 2011.
