Amy Christine Dumas (born April 14, 1975 in Fort Lauderdale ), also known by the ring name Lita , is a former American wrestler and singer in the rock and punk band The Luchagors .

Career

Beginnings / Independent

After graduating from high school, Dumas went to Florida to attend Dory Funk Jr.'s wrestling school. to train. After completing her wrestling training, she went to Mexico for around a year to gain first wrestling experience. She then returned to the United States and appeared under the name Angelica in the Organization of Modern Extreme Grappling Arts, founded by the later Hardy Boyz , and other independent leagues.

Extreme Championship Wrestling

There Dumas was discovered by Paul Heyman , who signed her for Extreme Championship Wrestling . From the beginning of 1999 Dumas appeared regularly in the ECW. Here, too, she was initially only valet at Skull Von Krush's side . Dumas later accompanied Danny Doring and Roadkill to the ring and changed their ring name to Miss Congeniality . Through her wrestling training, she was able to take many falls (bumps) better than valets who came to wrestling as "lateral entrants".

World Wrestling Federation / World Wrestling Entertainment

In the fall of 1999, Dumas was signed by the then World Wrestling Federation . There she had her first appearances in front of WWF cameras that same year as the companion of the Godfather .

Dumas' official debut under the name Lita came in February 2000, initially as a companion to Essa Rios . Dumas was mostly kept out of the matches and was only allowed to show actions occasionally. After a short time she was made the valet of the Hardy Boyz tag team , which consisted of the brothers Matt and Jeff Hardy . Dumas was also privately involved with the former.

In large-scale storyline in 2004 and 2005, Dumas had relationships with Kane and Adam Copeland alias Edge, whom she also married according to the script. Dumas and Copeland also became a couple privately, which led to certain dissatisfaction as Copeland had taken Dumas out of Matt Hardy. This was thematized in the form of a storyline between Copeland and Matt Hardy in the wrestling shows. A RAW show in January 2006 caused a scandal when Dumas and Copeland had implied live sex on a segment in a bed set up in the ring. Although the sex was only indicated by movements under a blanket, Dumas' bare chest could be seen for a moment.

On August 14, 2006 Dumas was allowed to defeat Mickie James at RAW and thus secure the WWE Women's Championship for the third time . However, she had to give the title to Trish Stratus about a month later . At the pay-per-view event WWE Cyber ​​Sunday on November 5, 2006, Dumas was able to win the title again. In November 2006, her contract with the WWE expired and was not renewed; In contrast to other wrestlers who had worked for the league for several years, however, Dumas did not receive an honorable farewell, but was ridiculed, which was criticized by other wrestlers.

Dumas declined an invitation from the Mexican AAA league to perform there with their band. She also waived a request from TNA wrestling. At the 15th anniversary edition of RAW in January 2007, Dumas made a one-off guest appearance.

She had other guest appearances on the Raw edition on November 1, 2010 with Pee Wee Herman , on December 12, 2011 and on July 23, 2012 in the 1000th edition of RAW . She has been a commentator on RAW Live Pre-Show and Smackdown Live Pre-Show since 2016. On April 5, 2014, Dumas was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame . In 2018 she took part in the first women's Battle Royal as part of the Royal Rumble.
