Charles Doyle Haas II (born March 27, 1972 in Edmond , Oklahoma , USA ), better known by his ring name Charlie Haas , is an American wrestler . Charlie Haas has been married to Jackie Gayda since June 10, 2005. Their daughter, Kayla Jacquelyn Haas, was born on December 14, 2006. He currently competes independently, but mainly for the Ring of Honor .

Career

Haas as WWE Tag Team Champion

Beginnings

Together with his brother Thomas Russell Haas he formed the Haas Brothers tag team and was able to win several titles in different leagues. His brother died of heart failure in December 2001.

WWE

On December 26, 2002, he made his debut for World Wrestling Entertainment . There he formed the Angle team with Shelton Benjamin . This team was headed by Kurt Angle . He separated from the team and so Haas and Benjamin continued as Worlds Greatest Tag Team . Together they won the WWE Tag Team Title twice. However, Benjamin switched to RAW in 2004 . Haas found a new partner in Rico . He was also able to win the tag team title with him. However, after some time, Rico was released.

Haas went on alone for a while before he and Hardcore Holly teamed up. They vied against MNM ( Joey Mercury , Johnny Nitro and Melina Perez ) for the tag team title, but could not win it. In July 2005, Haas was released.

Independent area

He then worked for a short time at Jersey All Pro Wrestling . At Ballpark Brawl he was able to win the Natural Heavyweight Championship . He then worked for ECWA and then went on to Professional Championship Wrestling .

Return to the WWE

Haas returned to WWE on April 17, 2006. In June he had a feud with Viscera but later formed a tag team with him. In December the World's Greatest Tag Team made a comeback with him and Benjamin. The team had feuds against The Highlanders , Cryme Time and the Hardy Boyz . The team was disbanded again when Benjamin switched to the ECW brand.

On August 31, 2007, his name appeared on a list of wrestlers alleged to have obtained doping substances from Signatur Pharmacy and he was subsequently suspended for 30 days.

At the beginning of 2008, Haas appeared with a gimmick in which he went under the ring in the middle of the match and returned to the match wearing a mask. In his subsequent alter ego, Haas increasingly showed Luchador similar techniques in a comic-like distorted version. As an example he showed a diving splash, but did not land with his upper body on his opponent as usual, but with his feet first. It often happened that his opponent unmasked him again after a short time, with the result that Haas returned to his usual style. In July 2008 this gimmick was dropped again.

In late August, Haas began to mimic other wrestlers after switching to a so-called baby face , a wrestler that fans are supposed to like. This is based on the idea of John Laurinaitis . His first match with this gimmick was against Carlito's real brother Primo Colón as his brother under the name "Charlito", which Haas lost. This began Haas' imitations and parodies of other wrestlers, similar to the parodies of Stevie Richards on the original ECW, but also reminiscent of points in the Big Show and Kurt Angle careers in WWE. He portrayed superstars such as John Cena , John "Bradshaw" Layfield , Mr. Perfect , Jim Ross , The Great Khali (accompanied by his real managers), Stone Cold Steve Austin , Bret Hart , Hulk Hogan and Beth Phoenix , for what he won a Slammy Award.

On April 15, 2009, he moved through the WWE Draft to SmackDown and put down his imitation gimmick. A short reunion with Shelton Benjamin followed there. On February 28, 2010, Haas was fired from the WWE.

Independent

After Haas was fired, he joined Jersey All Pro Wrestling on March 20, 2010 and was allowed to win the JAPW New Jersey State Title there. Haas then appeared in several independent leagues in America, Europe and Japan. Since September 11, 2010 he has been competing for the Ring of Honor , where he reactivated the World's Greatest Tag Team with his old tag team partner Shelton Benjamin, which won the ROH World Tag Team Championship from the Kings of Wrestling on April 1, 2011 could. After losing the title to the Briscoe Brothers on December 23, 2011, they regained the title of those on May 12, 2012 at Border Wars . In Best In The World they lost the title to The All-Night Express (Kenny King & Rhett Titus).
