Elizabeth Kocianski Carolan (born November 24, 1980 in Elmira , New York ), better known by her ring name Beth Phoenix , is an American wrestler . She is currently under contract with the WWE as a commentator.

Private life

Carolan grew up in Elmira , New York . Carolan appeared as Beth Phoenix along with her colleagues Candice Michelle and Layla El in the February 2009 issue of Flex magazine . She lives with Adam Copeland , known as a wrestler by the ring name Edge .

Sporty background

In high school , Carolan played tennis and track and field and was on the New York Notre Dame High School Scholastic Wrestling Team .

Wrestling career

Independent Leagues (2001-2005)

After graduating from high school in 1998, Carolan trained under Ron Hutchinson, Joey Knight, and Robin Knightwing. On February 2, 2002, she made her debut on Brutal Extreme Explosive Rasslin as Phoenix . After that she was committed to various doctorates .

WWE (2004–2012, since 2017)

Ohio Valley Wrestling (2004-2007)

In 2004, Carolan signed a development contract with World Wrestling Entertainment . First, she was used in the Aufbauliga Ohio Valley Wrestling (OVW). There she made her debut on August 13, 2004 as Beth Phoenix .

Main roster debut and WWE Women's Champion (2006-2010)

Carolan made her debut on RAW in May 2006 alongside Trish Stratus , attacking Mickie James . In May 2006, she appeared in a number of WWE house shows. Carolan won the on 4 October 2006 OVW Women's title by Serena . She gave the title to Katie Lea on November 2, 2006 .

On Raw, Carolan feuded Candice Michelle . In the course of the feud , she won the WWE Women's Title on October 7, 2007 . After winning the title, Carolan began a feud against Mickie James , in the course of which she had to surrender her title to Mickie James.

In 2008, Carolan and Santino Marella became a couple as part of a storyline . Together they formed the Tag Team Glamarella , a Portmanteau word creation from Glamazon and Marella . At SummerSlam 2008 they competed against Kofi Kingston and Mickie James in a mixed tag team match , which Carolan and Marella won . Santino Marella won the WWE Intercontinental Title and Carolan won the WWE Women's Championship for the second time.

At the Royal Rumble in January 2009, she had to give up the WWE Women's Title to Melina . At WrestleMania XXV , she had to admit defeat to Santina Marella in a 25-Diva-Battle-Royal . So the Tag Team Glamarella broke up.

On October 12th, Carolan's move to SmackDown was announced in a RAW episode . She made her debut on October 30th against Jenny Brooks.

At the Royal Rumble , on January 31, 2010, she joined the Rumble as the second woman after Chyna and eliminated The Great Khali .

At the Extreme Rules event on April 25, 2010 , Michelle McCool won her the WWE Women's Championship in an Extreme Makeover Match . In May 2010, Carolan injured herself and was written off the shows. Previously, she gave the WWE Women's Championship to Layla . She returned to the Survivor Series -PPV.

WWE Divas Champion and Resignation (2011-2012)

At the WWE Draft on April 26, 2011, it was switched to RAW . From August 2011 to March 2012 she formed the Divas of Doom with Natalya . She won the WWE Divas Championship from Kelly Kelly at the Hell in a Cell event on October 2, 2011 . On April 23, 2012, she lost the RAW title to Nikki Bella .

On October 29, 2012 Carolan played her last match for the WWE in RAW, two days later her engagement for the promotion ended. She had not extended her expiring contract in order to devote more time to her family.

Admission to the Hall of Fame and occasional appearances (since 2017)

Carolan was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on March 31, 2017 . At WrestleMania 35 she was part of the match for the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship where she performed with Natalya , but they could not win the match. She also took part in the 2019 WWE European Tour.

Appearances as a commentator and Edge vs. Randy Orton feud (since 2020)

Carolan is currently a commentator on WWE NXT , but was also involved in a feud between Carolan's husband Adam Copeland, better known as Edge, and Randy Orton , including confronting Orton on a Raw episode, whereupon Orton RKO attacked Carolan and save her Skirmish continued. Edge also won the match at Wrestlemania 36 in the feud.
