The WWE Women's Tag Team Championship is the women's tag team - wrestling title of US doctoral WWE , the tag team division is only awarded to the Women's. The title was introduced on January 14, 2019 and has been defended across all WWE shows since its inception. The current titleholders in their first reign are Shayna Baszler and Nia Jax . As is common in wrestling, the award is based on a previously determined storyline .

history

During the December 24, 2018 edition of Raw , WWE Chairman Vince McMahon announced that a new women's tag team championship would be introduced in 2019. As with other titles that have been introduced since 2016, the new championship does not carry the lineage of the previous title (WWF Women's Tag Team Championship) , which was fought in the WWE between 1983 and 1989.

In the January 14, 2019 Raw episode, Alexa Bliss' title design was revealed in her segment, A Moment of Bliss . Following the reveal, Bliss announced that the first titleholders will be determined on February 17, 2019 in an Elimination Chamber Tag Team match , featuring three teams from Raw and three teams from SmackDown. The title is thus defended in both fires of the main rustler.

The first female champions since February 17, 2019, were Sasha Banks and Bayley ( The Boss 'n' Hug Connection ), who defeated five other teams at the Elimination Chamber event . After 49 days, they gave the Wrestlemania 35 title to The IIconics (Billie Kay and Peyton Royce ).
