Nicola Glencross (born April 21, 1989 in Glasgow , Scotland , United Kingdom ) is a Scottish wrestler who is currently under the ring name Nikki Cross with World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) under contract and appears on their weekly show SmackDown .

Private life

Nicola Glencross studied history at the University of Glasgow, one of the top 100 international universities in the world, and received both her bachelor's and master's degrees there. She is also a trained fitness trainer, nutritionist and personal trainer. Before Glencross concentrated exclusively on wrestling, she played basketball, field hockey and netball, and was also a cheerleader and dancer.

On January 17, 2019, she married her long-time partner Damian Mackle, who appears under the ring name Killian Dain at WWE and was part of the SAnitY group at WWE NXT .

Wrestling career

Beginning and first successes

Her interest in the sport of wrestling developed through the WWE show Fully Loaded in July 2000, which she watched on television with her sister. At the age of 18, Glencross registered at the Scottish Source Wrestling School and was trained there by her current husband, who was running the school at the time.

Glencross made her debut in the SWA (Scottish Wrestling Alliance) on September 20, 2008 under the ring name Nikki Storm in a mixed tag team match, which she played alongside her partner Majik against Ricky Knight and Sweet Saraya (the parents of the former WWE wrestler Paige ) lost. Glencross then fought at various British events and leagues before finally winning the vacant SSW (Scottish School of Wrestling) Diamonds title against Jen Blake on March 26, 2010, her first title ever. She was able to defend this title for over 100 days until she lost it to Falcon on July 10, 2010.

Glencross was able to win the second title of her career on November 10, 2012 at Pro-Wrestling: EVE, but lost it on the same evening. Glencross was able to start her longest title reign on October 29, 2010 when she won the vacant W3L Women's title against Miss Viper in the W3L (World Wide Wrestling League) and only had to hand it over to Carmel on November 18, 2012 after 751 days .

After her second title win on February 2, 2013 in Pro-Wrestling: EVE, Glencross set the record of 665 days as champion, which is still unbroken today. On February 28, she was able to win the title for a third time.

Before Glencross joined WWE, she was active in many different independent wrestling leagues around the world, including the UK, Japan and North America. In October 2014, Glencross also took part in the reality show TNA British Boot Camp 2, a British television show that gives young wrestlers from Great Britain the opportunity to win a contract with the American wrestling association TNA ( Total Nonstop Wrestling ). Although she reached the final, she was ultimately unable to prevail against her competition.

WWE

NXT (2016-2019)

In April 2016 it was announced that Glencross had signed a development contract with WWE NXT and will be trained with nine other newcomers at the WWE Performance Center with immediate effect.

Glencross made her first appearance on NXT on April 22, 2016 when she lost her match against Liv Morgan and Aliyah alongside Mandy Rose . After that, Glencross, now under the ring name Nikki Glencross, competed in several NXT matches until she appeared on October 12, 2016 as part of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament, together with Alexander Wolfe , Eric Young and Sawyer Fulton as the group SAnitY. Wolfe and Fulton took part in this tournament, while Glencross and Young remained masked at the ring, defeating Bobby Roode and Tye Dillinger's team in the first round . After the match, Young and Glencross attacked the defeated Dillinger together with the other group members and unmasked.

In the course of time, Glencross, now under her ring name Nikki Cross, was both part of SAnitY and a lone fighter at NXT and got several opportunities for the NXT Women's Champion title, which she could not use.

At the major event WWE NXT Takeover Brooklyn III on August 19, 2017, Glencross intervened several times in a title match between SAnitY and the Authors of Pain (Akam and Rezar) and thus had a considerable share in the subsequent title win.

After the other group members from SAnitY drifted to SmackDown Live as part of the Superstar Shake-Up 2018 , Clencross stayed behind as a lone fighter at NXT. She feuded against Shayna Baszler and Bianca Belair , among others, and was part of a storyline about identifying an unknown attacker against Aleister Black . Glencross was on the roof of the building at the time of the attack and was able to follow the process. In the weeks that followed, Black questioned her several times about who was responsible, but Glencross refused to give evidence until she finally betrayed him and Johnny Gargano was identified as the attacker. Since Glencross betrayed Gargano as an accomplice, she had to face Candice LaRea (Gargano's wife in real life) at NXT War Games as an act of revenge.

Glencross played her last match at NXT on January 9, 2019 and lost it to Bianca Belair.

Main Roster (since 2018)

Glencross made her debut in the main squad in the Smackdown episode on November 6th, 2018 when she surprisingly accepted an open challenge from the reigning WWE Smackdown Women's title holder Becky Lynch .

She lost this match, but in the RAW issue of December 18, 2018 it was announced that in the coming weeks the superstars Lars Sullivan, the tag team Heavy Machinery, Lacey Evans , EC3 and also Glencross will be firmly in the main roster of RAW and Smackdown should be integrated.

At the beginning, Glencross was used in both Smackdown and RAW, so she was seen for the first time in a RAW match on January 14th. She won this alongside Bayley and Natalya against the Riot Squad (Ruby Riott, Liv Morgan and Sarah Logan).

Glencross made her first big appearance at the Royal Rumble on January 27, 2019 when she entered the 30 Women's Royal Rumble Match as' # 8 and held out for nine minutes before being thrown over the top ring rope by the IIconics ( Peyton Royce and Billie Kay ) has been.

Together with Alicia Fox they tried to qualify as a tag team for the Elimination Chamber Match for the new Women's Tag Team title, but lost their match against Bayley and Sasha Banks .

At Wrestlemania 35 she entered the second edition of the Women's Battle Royal, where she was able to eliminate Maria Kanellis, but was promoted from the ring by Asuka shortly afterwards .

Alliance with Alexa Bliss (since May 2019)

Through the superstar shake-up, Glencross became an integral part of the RAW squad and has since been seen as a constant companion at Alexa Bliss as part of a storyline . In May 2019, she took her place in the Money-in-the-Bank ladder because Bliss was out due to injury, but had to admit defeat to the eventual winner Bayley. After this match she became Alexa Bliss' “best friend” and has since been her tag team partner, ring companion and co-host on the talk show “A Moment of Bliss”.

At the RAW edition on June 17th, Glencross and Bliss secured a title chance against the IIconics for the WWE Women's Tag Team Champion title, but could not take advantage of this chance. Later, in the course of a storyline, Glencross enabled Bliss to win the title chances for the Smackdown Women's title at the major events Stomping Grounds and Extreme Rules (in a 2–1 handicap match) after she had repeatedly defeated the reigning title holder Bayley (she had often critical of her relationship with Alexa Bliss and accused Bliss of calculation and exploitation) who later won both matches.

On August 5, 2019, she and Alexa Bliss secured the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship from The Ilconics Billie Kay and Peyton Royce . This was a Fatal 4 Way Elimination Tag Team Match in which Sonya Deville and Mandy Rose as well as The Kabuki Warriors Asuka and Kairi Sane were involved. The reign lasted 62 days and finally lost the title on October 6, 2019 to The Kabuki Warriors Asuka and Kairi Sane. As part of the WWE Draft, Cross switched from Raw to SmackDown on October 15, 2019 . On November 24, 2019, she played a Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match against Natalya , Asuka , Charlotte Flair , Kairi Sane, Sarah Logan, Rhea Ripley, Io Shirai, Bianca at the WWE Survivor Series together with Carmella , Dana Brooke, Lacey Evans and Sasha Banks Belair , Toni Storm and Candice LeRae. She lost that match. On April 4, 2020, she won the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship again together with Alexa Bliss . For this they defeated The Kabuki Warriors Asuka and Kairi Sane. This reign lasted 62 days and eventually lost the titles to Bayley and Sasha Banks.
