Michael Hunter Hutter (born March 18, 1983 in Willoughby , Ohio , USA ) better known under his ring name Ethan Carter III ( EC3 for short ) is an American wrestler who was under contract with World Wrestling Entertainment until April 15, 2020 . His greatest success so far is receiving the TNA World Heavyweight Championship twice .

Wrestling career

Beginnings

At the beginning of his career he appeared in several independent leagues in Ohio. On his debut in 2002 he was able to defeat John Throne. From 2007 to 2008 he competed for Ohio Valley Wrestling .

WWE (2009-2013)

On February 5, 2009, he played his first match as Mike Hutter at Florida Championship Wrestling , the then expansion league of World Wrestling Entertainment . In that match he lost to Drew McIntyre . This issue aired on March 1, 2009, making his television debut. On February 19, 2009, it was renamed Derrick Bateman. In the FCW edition of September 5, 2010, which was recorded on August 12, 2010, he won the FCW Florida Tag Team Championship of Los Aviadores (Epico and Hunico ) with Johnny Curtis after they won Los Aviadores and The Colossal Connection (Brodus Clay and Donny Marlow) in a Triple Threat Match. They lost the title on November 4, 2010 to Wes Brisco and Xavier Woods .

Hutter participated in the fourth and fifth seasons of WWE NXT . Daniel Bryan acted as his mentor in both seasons . In the fourth season, he was third. He won the fifth season of NXT.

After his win, he performed for SmackDown . He could not prevail at SmackDown, so he was used in NXT, the new expansion league of the WWE. He appeared on NXT a few times. His last appearance in the WWE was on the May 29, 2013 NXT edition, which was recorded on May 2, 2013 when he lost in a squash match to Big E. Langston . On May 17, he was released from the WWE.

Total Nonstop Action Wrestling / Impact Wrestling (2013-2018)

On September 26, 2013 a video announcing the debut of ETHAN was played. In the next week a video was played again where he appeared as Ethan Carter III, or EC3 for short. He made his debut for TNA at Bound For Glory in 2013 in a match against Norv Fernum, which he won. He embodied the gimmick of the spoiled nephew of Dixie Carter, the president of TNA. He formed a stable with rock star Spud and Dixie Carter. He then feuded against Sting , Jeff Hardy , Bobby Lashley and Kurt Angle and Bully Ray , among others . He later formed a tag team with Tire.

On June 25, 2015 he won the TNA World Heavyweight Championship from Kurt Angle . He lost the title on October 4, 2015 at Bound For Glory 2015 to Matt Hardy in a three way match in which Drew Galloway was also involved. On January 5, 2016, he won the TNA World Heavyweight Championship for the second time after defeating Matt Hardy for the vacant title in the tournament finals. He lost the title to Matt Hardy on January 8, 2016.

At the Impact Wrestling edition of August 3, 2017, which was recorded on July 5, 2017, he won the Impact Grand Championship from Moose . He lost the title at the Impact Wrestling edition of January 25, 2018, which was previously recorded on November 10, 2017, to Matt Sydal .

His last appearance for Impact Wrestling was at the Impact Wrestling edition on March 15, 2018, where he opened his Feast or Fired case , which he won earlier. Since he won the suitcase with the discharge papers, he was also discharged according to the storyline. Since he had left Impact Wrestling before, this was also his last TV appearance for the league.

Return to WWE 2018-2020

On January 27, 2018 on NXT TakeOver: Philadelphia , Hutter returned to World Wrestling Entertainment under the ring name EC3 where he was shown in the audience. His first match on his return to the WWE, he played on March 8, 2018 at a house show victorious against Chris Hero . On April 7, 2018 at NXT TakeOver: New Orleans , he was part of the 6 Way Ladder Match for the newly introduced NXT North American Championship . However, he could not win this title.

Raw (2019-2020)

As part of the 2019 Superstar Shake-Up, EC3 switched from WWE NXT to Raw on April 15, 2019 . On June 24, 2019, he won the WWE 24/7 Championship but lost it a few seconds later. On September 20th, he won the 24/7 Championship again after pinning R-Truth in Manila during a house show in the Philippines . However, he lost the title to Truth the same night. On September 21, he won the 24/7 Championship again after pinning R-Truth during a house show in Shanghai , China . However, he lost the title to Truth the same night. On September 22nd, he won the 24/7 Championship again after pinning R-Truth during a house show in Honolulu , Hawaii . However, he lost the title to Truth the same night. Due to a wave of layoffs, he was released from the WWE on April 15, 2020.
