The Impact Grand Championship was a wrestling title for individual wrestlers in the Impact Wrestling league . The title was introduced to replace the previously discontinued TNA King of the Mountain Championship . As is common in wrestling, the award is based on a previously determined storyline .

history

In the Impact issue of August 18, which was recorded on August 12, the TNA King of the Mountain Champion Lashley , who was also TNA World Heavyweight and TNA X Division Champion , wanted to combine all three titles. After he was denied his request by TNA President Billy Corgan , Lashley voluntarily gave up the TNA X Division Championship and TNA King of the Mountain Championship . The following day, the TNA King of Mountain Championship was discontinued and at the same time Billy Corgan presented the Impact Grand Championship , which replaced the TNA King of the Mountain Championship . As usual in wrestling, the length of the championship is based on the real past time, not on the storyline of the wrestling editions. Therefore, the days were determined by the recording times. The special thing about this title is that the title is fought in three rounds, where each round lasts 3 or 5 minutes. If there is no winner in these three rounds, the winner will be determined by referees who act according to a 10-point system. The first title holder was determined in an 8-man tournament. The final took place on October 2, 2016 at the PPV Bound for Glory . In the final, Aron Rex was able to prevail against Eddie Edwards to become the first title holder. At the Impact Wrestling edition of March 29, 2018, which was previously recorded on January 14, 2018, Impact World Champion Austin Aries won the Impact Grand Championship from Matt Sydal . On June 4th, Austin Aries announced at the Slammiversary XVI press conference that he would combine the Impact Grand Championship with the Impact World Championship , so the title was discontinued.
