John Hodger Laurinaitis (born July 31, 1962 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is a former American wrestler who is currently under contract with the WWE .

Laurinaitis' brother Joseph was also a wrestler and was known by his ring name Road Warrior Animal as part of the Road Warriors tag team . His nephew James plays American football for the St. Louis Rams in the NFL .

Career

Active wrestling

Laurinaitis began his career in the National Wrestling Alliance , where he made his debut in 1986 under the name Johnny Ace . From 1988 he also appeared in Japan at All Japan Pro Wrestling . There he took part in the Real World Tag League with wrestler Dan Spivey . In 1989 he returned to the USA and from then on competed in the NWA World Championship Wrestling . There he formed the tag team The Dynamic Dudes with the later Shane Douglas . This won Laurinaitis 1989 twice the NWA Florida Tag Team Championship . In 1990 he returned to AJPW in Japan. 1990 and 1991 won Laurinaitis along with Kenta Kobashi twice the AJPW All Asia Tag Team Championship . In 1993 he appeared twice in the WCW, which in the meantime had left the NWA.

In 1996 Laurinaitis won the AJPW World Tag Team Championship with Steve Williams . From 1997 to 1999 he won the title three more times (twice with Kenta Kobashi and once with Mike Barton ). Laurinaitis retired on June 9, 2000, but returned in 2004 for a match at Ohio Valley Wrestling .

Time after active wrestling

After Laurinaitis ended his active career in 2000, he was hired as a booker at WCW that same year . After the WCW ended in 2001, Laurinaitis was taken over by the then WWF . There he was not used as a booker, but as a road agent . In 2004 he succeeded Jim Ross as vice president of the talent relations department and was head of this department until June 2012 before he had to transfer these responsibilities to Paul Levesque .

Since July 17, 2011, the WWE Money in the Bank - PPV , he can be seen regularly on WWE TV. From October 10, 2011, he was interim general manager of RAW . At WrestleMania 28 on April 1, 2012 a team set up by him won against one of the SmackDown General Manager Theodore Long. As a result, he was permanent general manager of RAW and SmackDown, before losing a match against John Cena on June 17, 2012 at the major event No Way Out Big Show and Laurinaitis was then fired according to the storyline.
