Ray Otto Kuehl (born February 12, 1893 in Davenport , Iowa , † July 24, 1967 in Venice , Florida ) was an American American football player. He played as a running back with the Rock Island Independents and the Dayton Triangles in the National Football League (NFL).

Player career

Waddy Kuehl attended high school in his hometown and studied at Saint Ambrose University after graduating from high school . From 1912 he played American football for various local football teams. In 1918 he was signed by Walter Flanigan , owner of the Rock Island Independents . Flanigan was a co-founder of the American Professional Football Association (APFA), which was renamed the NFL two years later. In 1920, Kuehl played under Head Coach Rube Ursella with the Independents, in which, among other things, the later member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame Ed Healey was under contract in the APFA. The team from Rock Island , Illinois finished fourth in the table after the season. In 1921, Kuehl moved to the Buffalo All-Americans to join the Detroit Tigers that same year . In 1922 he returned to Buffalo, only to be hired by the Independents again in 1923. After a final year at the Dayton Triangles, Kuehl ended his career in 1924.
