Life

Bryan Woods, born in Davenport in 1984, met Scott Beck at the age of 11 . They had seen a number of silent films starring Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton during their college days together . Jacques Tati , however, was her absolute favorite, according to his later author colleague Beck.

After Woods and Beck showed films together at the Adler Theater in Davenport, they later wrote various scripts together, for example between 2002 and 2010 for the short film Yearbook , for which Woods received the Eddy Award at the 2002 Cedar Rapids Independent Film Festival, and for the short films Amber , Shades and Impulse . They also developed the underlying story for the horror thriller Nightlight , released in 2015, which they also directed together. In 2017 it was announced that they were able to sell their script for A Quiet Place to Paramount Pictures. Woods and Beck had already developed the basic idea for this during their college days. Their shared passion for silent films had led them to place the story of A Quiet Place in such a genre context. Her script was eventually implemented by actor and director John Krasinski .
