Mary Beth Peil (born June 25, 1940 in Davenport , Iowa ) is an American actress and opera singer (soprano).

Life

Mary Beth Peil became famous mainly through the theater. She is a renowned artist on Broadway.

After a 20-year career as an opera singer , she decided to switch to acting. She was seen in the Broadway version of The King and I , for which she received a Tony Award nomination .

In 1997 she got her best-known TV role in the US television series Dawson's Creek as Evelyn "Grams" Ryan. She then appeared in major roles in the 2003 television film The Reagans and in 2004 in The Women of Stepford . She has remained loyal to the theater to this day.
