Orelsan (born August 1, 1982 in Alençon ; real name Aurélien Cotentin ) is a French rapper .

Band history

Aurélien Cotentin went to school in Caen . He began to rap and gave himself the name Orelsan , where Orel was the short form of his first name and san , the Japanese ending for "Lord", an allusion to his predilection for manga. At the age of 17 he met Guillaume Tranchant alias Gringe. They founded the hip-hop duo Casseurs Flowters and released two mixtapes.

Then the two let the joint project slide and Orelsan began with solo releases. From 2007 he published his own songs and in 2009 he successfully debuted in the charts in France and Belgium with his first album Perdu d'avance . In 2011 he had his first single hit with RaelSan and the following second album Le chant des sirènes reached number three in France and stayed in the top 200 for almost a year and a half. He was also successful in Switzerland and Belgium. It was there that Stromae became aware of him and invited him to make a guest contribution to his album Racine carrée . The common song AVF ( Allez-vous faire ) also hit the charts.

Over the years, the collaboration with Gringe never stopped and in 2013 the two decided to revive Casseurs Flowters and released the joint album Orelsan et Gringe sont les Casseurs Flowters .
