Luigi Weiss (born December 17, 1951 in Vattaro ) is a former Italian biathlete and ski mountaineer .
Luigi Weiss was a member of the Italian armed forces and started for Fiamme Oro di Moena . He took part in the biathlon world championships for the first time in 1975 in Antholz and was 49th of the individual. The next major event was the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck , where he finished sixth in the relay race with Lino Jordan , Pierantonio Clementi and Willy Bertin . In the following years, Weiss took part in world championships until 1983. The 1979 World Championships in Hochfilzen went well , where the Italian finished eleventh in the individual and seventh in the sprint. He achieved his greatest success in 1979 in Ruhpolding , where he won the bronze medal in sprint races behind Frank Ullrich and Odd Lirhus . Another career highlight followed a year later in Lake Placid at the 1980 Winter Olympics . In the sprint he was 18th, with Arduino Tiraboschi , Adriano Darioli and Celestino Midali ninth in relay. Nationally Weiss won 12 medals at Italian championships. In 1978 he won the sprint title, in 1979 in individual, and in 1981 again in sprint.
Weiss was also a successful ski mountaineer. In 1975, together with Angelo Genuin and Bruno Bonaldi, he won the military ranking of the Trofeo Mezzalama , which was also the world championship in ski mountaineering that year .
