Gasmac Gilmore
Gasmac Gilmore is a Viennese rock band formed in 2002 . Their musical style is a "mixture of trashy beats, klezmer influences and brutal heavy metal".
history
Gasmac Gilmore is a rock band from Vienna. Their music is characterized by the mixture of metal and world music elements. Gasmac Gilmore was founded by Matthias Wick (vocals, guitar) and Max Berner (drums) in Vienna in 2002. The other band members are Elias Berner (guitar) and Victor-Ezio (bass). Gasmac Gilmore caused a sensation in February 2006 when she hijacked a U4 subway wagon in Vienna and took the “1” from Hütteldorf to the terminus in Heiligenstadt . Wiener U-Bahn-Konzert “played. This was followed by guest performances in a barge (boat) on the Danube Canal and in a telephone booth. In 2009 they received the Austrian Newcomer Award for their album “About Boys And Dogs” . This was followed by the collaboration with the German-Turkish producer Kader Kesek and the album "Dead Donkey" which was recorded in 2011 in Berlin together with Niko Stössel . In 2013 the band was able to convince the international festival organizers at the Eurosonic Festival (NL) and have since been represented at all important festivals in Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Romania, Italy, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and the Netherlands. International guest musicians from the world music scene give the ensemble an additional Balkan and klezmer flair during their live performances. In 2017 the album "Begnadet für das Schöne" was created. Produced in London by James LeRock Loughrey , Gasmac Gilmore released an album in two languages for the first time. All 10 songs are available in an English and a German version.
At the end of 2018, lead singer Matthias Wick leaves the band and Gasmac Gilmore is reorganized around the hip-hop duo Esrap. Esrap, the siblings Esra and Enes Özmen, grew up in the old Viennese working-class district of Ottakring, and in hip-hop they found the perfect medium to gain a hearing and to gain recognition for their own living environment with all its conflicts. The rapper Esra, a power woman with an art diploma and flowing curls, sweeps the beat with her rock-hard raps like a hurricane. Her younger brother Enes sings the sentimental arabesques in the mostly Turkish-speaking choruses and Gasmac Gilmore make the boundaries between East and West, harshness and irony disappear with raging polka, hard metal riffs and pulsating Balkan brass a la Kusturica.
In 2019, the first sound carrier, "Friends Doing", will be released under the new band name Esrap & Gasmac Gilmore.
