ZPYZ is an electro-pop band from Berlin , consisting of Locke (born December 16, 1977 in Berlin; real name Florian Hirche) and Ivan (born March 12, 1979 in Sofia / Bulgaria ; real name Ivan Georgiev).

history

ZPYZ was formed in 2007 from the electronic duo "Jazalou & Lockefella" founded in 1994. The name ZPYZ is based on the combination of the two English words "Spy" (spy) and "Spice" (spice). "Spyce" seems too trivial to the two artists. Through their connections to the Berlin breakdance and sprayer scene, Ivan and Locke were inspired and created an artificial word: ZPYZ.

While Jazalou & Lockefella only created instrumental pieces and primarily operate in the breakbeat scene, Ivan and Locke created the space in 2009 under the name ZPYZ to position their music more broadly. ZPYZ expanded their music to include pop elements and vocals.

In 2005 Ivan received various offers to work for and with international artists. He wrote and produced songs in Berlin and Orlando / Florida. His songs have been awarded several precious metals. In the same year Jazalou & Lockefella set the DVD of the Breakdance World Championship Final BC One to music on behalf of Red Bull.

In the years 2007 to 2009 ZPYZ concentrated completely on the creation of their debut album and signed their first publishing deal. In 2008, ZPYZ released the remix alone by Polarkreis 18 . In the winter of the same year, ZPYZ played as the opening act for Deichkind in Berlin. There Felix Hansen (then Booking DEAG Music, today Landstreicher Booking) became aware of ZPYZ and offered ZPYZ the collaboration the next day. A short time later (2009) ZPYZ signed their record deal with DEAG Music GmbH. Numerous appearances followed in 2009, including a. at the “Formula 1 Rocks Festival” in Singapore, where Beyoncé , the Black Eyed Peas and ZZ Top also performed.

In 2010 ZPYZ released their debut album 2080 and played numerous concerts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Sebastian Vettel presented the title Racecar at the Hockenheimring and declared himself a ZPYZ fan. Vettel won the first world championship title of his career, and Racecar became the theme song of his success. a. Racecar ran at Vettel's victory celebration at the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin.

After the hustle and bustle of the first album and countless appearances, Ivan left Berlin and moved back to his native Bulgaria. He bought a fallow piece of land on the Black Sea coast and built a recording studio there. Ivan began to record the first sketches and finally recorded the second ZPYZ album in Bulgaria. In 2013, Ivan and Locke discovered that they had developed in different directions musically. Locke left ZPYZ. Ivan, who wrote alone during his creative break in Bulgaria and recorded and produced all the instruments himself, developed a new concept for ZPYZ in which he is both a solo artist and a band.

Racecar has been the Nivea for Men promotional song since 2013 .
