Pascow is a German punk rock band founded in 1998 . The band, which comes from Gimbweiler in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland, plays punk rock with mostly German lyrics.

history

The name of the band comes from Stephen King's novel Friedhof der Kuscheltiere , in which a "Victor Pascow" occurs. The group was founded in 1998 in the village of Gimbweiler in Rhineland-Palatinate , where the rehearsal room is still located today, around the brothers Alex and Ollo Pascow. Some band members also come from the St. Wendel district . As is often the case in the punk scene (based on the Ramones ), the members also adapted the band name as a surname. In 1999 the demo cassette The Charles Bronson Gay Club was released . Based on the DIY idea, the band founded the independent label Kidnap Music to release their music on recordings. At the same time, the trendy shop Aunt Guerilla started.

For the first three albums, the band worked closely with the Plastic Bomb Fanzine record company . In 2002 their debut album Richard Nixon Disopistole was released with the hit scene Hitchhiking North . In 2004, the former Across the Border bassist Bieber joined the band. With him the two albums were released, Stories That One wrote ... , which attracted attention with its metallic production, and Next Stop, tiled floor , which the band presented in a more musically mature but also more aggressive way. In 2008, bassist Flo was a new addition to the band. At the same time the band switched the distribution of Plastic Bomb to Rookie Records from Cologne. In 2010 the album Alles must be kaputt was released .

On February 28, 2014 the album Diene der Party was released . In addition to the normal digipack and LP version, a box set was released that included an LP, an MP3 version of the album and a book in LP format. In addition to the texts, the book contains short stories by underground literary writers such as Jan Off , Alex Gräbeldinger and Chris Scholz as well as a fan short story on various songs by Pascow. The box set, limited to 500 pieces, was sold out before it was released. The album features Lettre Noir, a song against the band Frei.Wild from South Tyrol .

The band rarely goes on tour, but does a large number of concerts, especially in the Trier Ex-Haus and a few selected festival gigs, such as Punk im Pott or Force Attack .

At the beginning of 2019 their sixth album Jade was released , with which they entered the German album charts for the first time (number 47). The band had restructured internally after the DVD Lost Heimweh . The way of writing had also changed, singer Alex Pascow added: “It wasn't about throwing our style overboard, but we wanted to make everything a bit clearer within the scope of our possibilities. With that we also let our pants down and make ourselves a little more vulnerable. But when we sing about love it has to be very clear and when we sing about politics it has to be very clear too. "

style

Musically, the band is rooted in German-speaking punk rock. Lyrically she was influenced by representatives of the so-called "German punk" (as opposed to German punk ), such as Bone Factory , Duesenjaeger , Turbostaat , Dackelblut and the later works of Die Goldenen Zitronen . There are also various allusions to novels by Stephen King in the texts. The band was musically influenced at the beginning by The Misfits and the Ramones , later also by rock bands such as Gluecifer , Turbonegro and Turbo AC's . At the beginning they also called their style of music Bukowski Pop, as the works of the poet Charles Bukowski also served as a further influence . A direct reference is the album title Stories That One wrote… . Over the years the sound became denser and the lyrics more mature. In particular, from the next stop tiled floor , Pascow is more mature and versatile. In addition, the band has since become more aggressive and heavier than on the previous albums. When serving the party , the lyrics became more direct, but also very melancholy, the music became more melodic again.
