Serve the Party is the fifth studio album by the German punk rock band Pascow . It was released on February 28, 2014 via the band's own Kidnap Music and the Cologne label Rookie Records (distributed by Cargo Records ).

History of origin

In 2013 the band Pascow withdrew from their live performances to complete the album. They only played a few gigs in support of Die Ärzte and Turbostaat . During this time the new songs for the album were created. The first text was Merkel-Jugend . The drum recordings took place one week in October 2013 in the Toolhouse Studio in Rotenburg an der Fulda . The band was assisted by Simon Jäger. In October, the rest of the record was recorded over two weeks in recording studio 54 by music producer Kurt Ebelhäuser in Friedrichssegen near Koblenz . While working on the album, the band experimented a lot with the sound to create a new kind of sound.

Originally the album was supposed to be called Lettre Noir , but since Broilers released the album Noir shortly before , they decided against it and named the album after another song. The release party of the album took place on March 7, 2014 in the Trier Ex-Haus.

publication

In addition to the normal digipack and LP version, a box set was released that included an LP, an MP3 version of the album and a book in LP format. In addition to the texts, the book contains short stories by underground literary writers such as Jan Off , Alex Gräbeldinger and Chris Scholz as well as a fan short story on various songs by Pascow. The book also includes concert photos by Kay Özdemir . The box set was sold out before it was released.

Music style and lyrics

Pascow experimented a little with their sound on Diene the party . They limited themselves to two or three guitar tracks and were looking for an eighties drum sound. The new sound was a bit more bass-heavy than on the previous albums. The lyrics of Diene der Party are much more direct and less clauses. A large part of the texts is about the demands of the world of work and growing up in the village and in the city. Current developments are also taken up, for example Lettre Noir turns against the South Tyrolean band Frei.Wild .

Song info

The title track is about the "world of work, self-sacrifice, twelve-hour days and the belief that it makes you feel better." The song alludes to The Smiths several times , including their song Panic and the album The Queen Is Dead . Motifs of the song are also taken up in the accompanying video, including Yoda , the Queen and Morrissey .

The time of awakening describes the turning point of adolescence in the first part and then turns to the debate about the “ Fortress Europe ”. Also in Castle Rock is about growing up. The beginning is an unintentional quote from the Kiss song I Was Made for Loving You , which was created when an attempt was made to make the sound as untypical for Pascow as possible.

Lettre Noir is directed against the South Tyrolean band Frei.Wild. The text draws parallels to the Frankfurt band Böhse Onkelz .

Letters to Patti Smith is about a twelve year old girl who writes letters to Patti Smith .

Nadine Mötherfucker from the St. Wendel band Christmas can be heard as a guest singer on several pieces .
