Metric is a Canadian rock band . It was founded in 1998 in New York (USA).
Band history
The band was initially a project of singer Emily Haines and guitarist James Shaw, who lived in New York City in 1998 and worked there together on synth- heavy music. Between 1999 and 2001 they recorded the intended debut album, Grow Up and Blow Away , which was to be released on Restless Records . After Restless was bought by Rykodisc , the album was put on hold. In 2001 the two Americans Josh Winstead (bass) and Joules Scott-Key (drums) joined the band and completed the formation.
In 2003 the first Metric album was recorded in Los Angeles and released on a Canadian independent label. The Old World Underground, Where Are You Now? titled work was produced by Michael Andrews and nominated for a Juno Award in the Best Alternative Album category. The album Live It Out followed in 2005 . After the tour following the publication, in which the group acted as the opening act for the Rolling Stones at their concerts in Madison Square Garden , there was a longer break in which the members were otherwise active. Emily Haines recorded a solo album in which James Shaw also participated. Scott-Key and Winstead recorded an album together as Bang Lime , which was released by Last Gang Records . Shaw built together with the then still at from Death Above 1979 active Sebastien Grainger the recording studio Giant on where the 2009 published next album by the band, Fantasies , was taken.
With Fantasies , Metric placed in the top 10 of the Canadian album charts and reached number 76 on the Billboard 200 .
In June 2010, the song Eclipse (All Yours) appeared on the soundtrack for the third part of the Twilight saga Eclipse .
On June 12, 2012 the Metric album Synthetica was released and in September 2015 the album "Pagans in Vegas".
