The Almex GmbH (2015 Hoeft & Wessel AG , 2015-2017 METRIC mobility solutions AG ), a German information technology company and subsidiary of DuTech Holdings Ltd. based in Shanghai. The Retail & Logistics division produces mobile data collection devices for retail and logistics as well as cash registers, and the Public Transport division produces ticket machines , electronic ticket printers , check-in machines and toll station terminals. In the past, the Parking Systems division also offered parking machines and parking space systems.

history

The company was founded in 1978 by Michael Höft and Rolf Wessel . Höft & Wessel GmbH , founded in 1980, was transformed into Höft & Wessel AG in 1998 , which was listed on the Neuer Markt of the Frankfurt Stock Exchange in the same year . Among other things, this was achieved through a major order for the delivery of ticket machines to Deutsche Bahn AG. In the course of this, the English company Metric was taken over for 20 million euros, which until then had produced solutions for parking systems and parking machines and was thus the largest provider in Great Britain. Since 2003 the share has belonged to the Prime Standard market segment . Höft & Wessel was listed in the Lower Saxony stock index NISAX20 .

In 2011 Höft & Wessel achieved a loss of almost 11 million euros on around 88 million euros in sales, which in 2012 led to the layoff of around 90 of the 300 employees at the headquarters in Hanover.

In 2013, Droege International Group AG took over the majority of the shares and, with the support of its own consulting company, sought a turnaround of the company. However, the company was unable to achieve a positive EBIT.

The equity was completely used up again in 2014.

In 2015 Höft & Wessel AG was renamed METRIC mobility solutions AG. In 2015, Deutsche Bahn AG placed a major order for 12,000 MTx devices, a basis for universal train conductor devices, from Höft & Wessel AG.

On June 28, 2016, the company filed for insolvency under self-administration ("protective shield proceedings "). The entire operating business was sold to the Singapore- based Dutech group in September 2016 ; Since then, the activity of METRIC mobility solutions AG has only been in the processing of insolvency proceedings. Under Dutech , the company was transferred to a German part, which carried out a new start in Hanover with 120 employees with the previously known Almex brand and an English part with 170 employees split as a metric .

Since the restructuring, Almex has mainly concentrated on offers in public transport ( Public Transport Department ) with new concepts such as improved coin processing, further developed ticket validators and retail ( Retail & Logistics department ) such as self-checkout counters or solutions for warehouse logistics. Comprehensive planning and implementation software for local transport is sold with several modules under the name optima . Another partnership for the further development of the generation of machines was established with Deutsche Bahn AG.

Currently, several thousand copies of the regional ticket machine generation (RTA) are still in operation at Deutsche Bahn AG, which replaced the new generation ticket machine (NTA) from 2006 . While the NTA only sold long-distance tickets, the innovation at the RTA was an integration of the local transport tariff, which until then was mostly sold through separate ticket machines. Almex offers a further development of the RTA as almex.station on the market.

Mobile data acquisition devices from Almex and its predecessor companies are used by Edeka , Globus , Rewe , Woolworth and Swiss Post , among others .

Almex ticket machines are used by numerous large transport companies, especially in German-speaking countries. B. at DB Group and at Üstra . The machines sold under the name almex.station are still being produced after the restructuring; in 2014, SNCB was a major buyer . In addition, the machines that Deutsche Bahn AG has been using as regional ticket machines since 2006 will continue to be supplied with appropriate materials and spare parts. By 2011, Metric installed 200 stationary Almex brand ticket machines in the canton of Geneva, which are operated with solar cells thanks to their reduced power consumption and are independent of the power grid. The toll station terminals from Toll Collect were also built by Höft & Wessel.

Parking machines and parking systems from Metric and Höft & Wessel are used internationally in many municipalities with a regional focus on Great Britain and the USA, but have not been offered since the restructuring.

The core business of Metric and Höft & Wessel was research, development and service. Both the data acquisition devices and the machines are manufactured by external service providers. Since the integration into the Dutech group with the Tri Star Group , a bundling of machine manufacturers within the group, the production takes place in the group's own factories.
