Electronic ticket printers are in vehicles of public transport ( PT ) as mobile vending machines for tickets and also as on-board computer for the passenger information system used. Manufacturers of ticket printers include the companies Atron , INIT , Elgeba (product name ticontrol ), IVU (product name ticket.box ), Höft & Wessel (product name Almex ), Krauth Technology , Palisis (product name InstantTicketing ), Scheidt & Bachmannand Zelisko .

Function as a sales device

With the device, the driver can print the ticket requested by the passenger with a needle, thermal or inkjet printer. A coin changer is usually integrated in the payment table, which is used to accept and dispense cash. Newer systems usually also have a chip card reader for cashless payments. The sales data are stored on a driver module, which the driver uses to settle the sales in his office. With modern devices, a connection via WLAN is also possible. This enables timetable and software updates to be played on the device and sales data to be downloaded.

Function as an on-board computer

The ticket printer controls all passenger information systems via the IBIS car bus. This means the destination displays, interior displays, validators and the stop announcement. In addition, the ticket printer can be linked to the computer-controlled operations control system (AVMS). This can u. a. the operational and data radio , the GPS monitoring and the automatic traffic signal control.
