Anna F. (2010)

Anna F. (born December 18, 1985 in Friedberg , Styria ; actually Anna Wappel ) is an Austrian singer-songwriter who specializes in pop-rock , folk and, to some extent , echoes from electronic music . She also works as an actress .

Career

Growing up in Friedberg in Styria, she began to sing as a child. First influences were her parents' records by Reinhard Mey , Bob Dylan and Joan Baez , and then rock music by Led Zeppelin ( Jimmy Page was also a title on her debut album), Alanis Morissette and Melissa Etheridge . In Graz , she studied English , at times also Italian, philosophy and literature, and worked on the weekends in the sports department of the TV station ATV in Vienna.

In 2005, at a concert by the Café Drechsler group, she met the drummer and music producer Alex Deutsch , who, as she explains, gave her "strength and courage" to pursue her musical interests. In the following years he became her closest adviser, drummer in her band and producer of her first album. During these years she performed with German and befriended musicians in smaller clubs in Graz and Vienna, such as the B72 . On the album Cafe Drechsler Is Back (2008) she was heard as a singer in the piece Get the Ball Rolling (feat. Hans K and Anna F) .

Anna F. with bass player Rafael D. Wiener and Alex Deutsch , Amadeus Awards 2009

She became known in early 2009 after her song Time Stands Still , which she recorded with Deutsch and Teddy Kampel in New York and posted online on her Myspace page, was used as music for a television commercial for the Raiffeisen banking group, in which she also played Girlfriend of ski jumper Gregor Schlierenzauer could be seen. As a result, the song was also airplayed on Austrian radio stations, was released as a download and reached number 38 in the Austrian charts . In the summer of 2009 she was the opening act for Lenny Kravitz's European tour with a band and appeared at the gala honoring the Austrian athlete of the year . At the Amadeus Austrian Music Awards 2009 she won in the “Pop” category. This also attracted media attention because she had only published one song by then and also because in her acceptance speech she thanked her sponsors for the independence that this collaboration gave her. When asked about it, she explained that this form of funding makes her independent of music labels and their influence on production. So she was able to cover the studio times for her album with the income from the bank commercials.

Anna F. ( Porgy & Bess 2010)

After the CD single most of all , which was used in the Raiffeisen Club's advertising , Anna F. released her debut album ... for real on February 5, 2010 on the label moerdermusic, founded by German . The album reached number 3 in the Austrian charts and was awarded a gold record in April . At the Amadeus Awards 2010 she won in the categories "Pop / Rock" and "Album of the Year". The album presentation in Vienna's Porgy & Bess was followed by a tour through Austria, including an appearance at the Donauinselfest , the album Live from the Mushroom , and in 2011 a tour through several cities in Germany.

At the beginning of 2011 she appeared in front of the camera for the first time as an actress in Dito Tsintsadze's feature film Invasion . The film premiered on June 30, 2012 at the Munich Film Festival . In autumn 2011 she was one of four young artists who traveled through the United States for a TV production for the station ARTE in the footsteps of Jack Kerouac's novel On the Road . The multi-part film (directed by Hannes Rossacher and Simon Witter ) was first broadcast on September 29, 2012.

In 2012 she moved to Berlin - Prenzlauer Berg . After stays in Los Angeles , New York and London , of which she reported in a video diary and where she worked on her new songs with Julie Frost , Rick Nowels and Ian Dench , she found Philipp Steinke to be the producer for her new album. Anna F. has been under contract with Polydor / Island ( Universal Music ) since 2013 . In August 2013 she released DNA as the first song of the upcoming album, first as a music video, and as an EP in early September . On December 19, 2013 she presented her song Too Far live during Jan Böhmermann's last Lateline . At the end of February 2014 her new album King in the Mirror was released , with which she will be on tour in March in Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Italy in support of James Blunt . Then she was able to place herself in the top 20 of the Italian charts with DNA .

In preparation for the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 in Austria, she and Alex Deutsch were part of the ORF team that was looking for candidates for the Austrian contribution. In addition to Nazar and The BossHoss , she is also the coach for the musicians during the selection of participants in several television shows in early 2015. In 2016, she was in front of the camera again for a feature film. The Ice Man , a story inspired by the glacier mummy “ Ötzi ”, was shown for the first time during the 2017 Locarno Festival .

In the course of 2018 the band Friedberg formed with Anna F (riedberg) as a singer. The first single, Boom, was released on February 8, 2019 on the newly founded label friedbergmusic, also named after their home town.
