history

The band was named after Ulrich Drechsler and based on the Viennese coffee house of the same name , Café Drechsler on Linke Wienzeile .

For their debut album Café Drechsler ( Universal Music , 2002), the band recorded around 40 improvised pieces in 2½ days, sometimes with guest musicians, in order to select the best from them. The album was released in over 20 countries. In Germany , Greece , Australia and Indonesia it reached positions in the top 10 of the radio and club charts and was nominated for the Amadeus Austrian Music Award in 2003 , but had to back off against Faces & Places by Joe Zawinul .

In 2004 Radio Snacks was released on the Viennese independent label mouth to mouth . On Radio snacks include the voices of John Megill ( FM4 ), Paul Plush and ex Bauchklang -member Flo aka Voyeur, as well as samples of DJ Zuzee ( Waxolutionists ) and the frontman of the percussion group Tam Tam d'Afrique , Cheikh M 'Boup, listen. The album was awarded the Amadeus Austrian Music Award in 2005 in the category "Best Album (Jazz / Blues / World Music)". In the same year, Café Drechsler auctioned their Amadeus Award at an internet auction to set an example against the poor conditions for musicians in Austria.

In autumn 2006 the trio broke up, but in 2017, after the reunification of the original line-up, recorded the album "And Now ... Boogie!" In the studio.
