Morcheeba is a British trip-hop - band . It was founded in 1995 in London by DJ Paul Godfrey , his brother Ross Godfrey (guitar, keyboards) and the singer Skye Edwards , whose voice has significantly shaped the sound of the group, as well as various guest musicians.
Band history
Her first album Who Can You Trust (1996) is still clearly under the influence of Massive Attack . The later albums Big Calm (1998), Fragments of Freedom (2000) and Charango (2002) are overall less dark and melancholy, but rather go in the direction of pop music ("trip pop"). Male vocals were heard for the first time on Charango .
After the release of the best-of album Parts of the Process , the Godfrey brothers separated from Skye Edwards in April 2004 and signed Daisy Martey as the new singer. In May 2005 the fifth album "The Antidote" was released. At the beginning of the live tour, Daisy Martey got out again and was replaced by Jody Sternberg .
Morcheeba worked with various guest singers on the CD Dive Deep , which was released in February 2008 . The English singer Judie Tzuke can be heard on the first single Enjoy the Ride and in the song Blue Chair , the Norwegian singer Thomas Dybdahl sings Riverbed , Sleep On It and Washed Away , the rapper Cool Calm Pete appears in One Love Karma , and the singer Amanda Zamolo (Manda), who had applied to the band via MySpace , sings Gained The World , Au-delà and Run Honey Run as background singer .
In February 2010 it was announced that the Godfrey brothers and Skye Edwards have reunited. On June 13, 2010 they released their new album together called Blood like Lemonade .
The album Head Up High was released on October 14, 2013 . Guest musicians include Ana Tijoux , James Petralli from White Denim , Chali 2na from Jurassic 5 and the Rizzle Kicks on the album. A tour followed shortly thereafter, which also took her to Germany for several appearances. After that, Paul Godfrey, who had long had musical and personal differences with his brother Ross, announced his departure from the band. Since there was initially no agreement on a financial regulation that would have allowed the name Morcheeba to continue to be used, the two remaining band members released an album under the name Skye & Ross in September 2016 .
On March 9, 2018, a new single called Never Undo was released again under the name Morcheeba.
The name of the band is a composition of the words "MOR" (stands for the musical style middle-of-the-road ) and "Cheeba", an English slang expression for marijuana . Morcheeba also sounds like "More Cheeba!" ("More grass!").
