Death By Chocolate is a Swiss rock band from Biel / Bienne . Her music style is a mix of alternative rock with blues influence and folk. The band made their first national headlines when they released their first EP My Portable Love in 2009 and later followed up with their debut album From Birthdays to Funerals . Her music video Tell Me What You See - the world's first interactive super slow motion music video - won international awards and caused a sensation.

history

Mathias Schenk, Daniel Wyttenbach, Thomas Schläppi and Daniel Schläppi have been making music together since 2003. They took their band name from a dessert on a London menu. The young musicians started with the classic rock'n'roll of the 50s and soon also with classics by Elvis and Chuck Berry . Then they discovered the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and The Black Keys for themselves and developed their own style of music from a variety of influences. In addition to the cover songs, I also added my own songs. But recordings only became an issue when the then drummer Julien Pinheiro joined them. This resulted in the first EP My Portable Love and the debut album From Birthdays To Funerals . Frontman Mathias Schenk is responsible as the songwriter, but it is the whole band that works out the ideas for the songs. The themes of the songs range from father-son relationships (Our Father's Ghost) to the relationship of a loner to the crowd (Curtain Call) to personal emotional worlds (Demopolis). She has already been seen on stage in over 600 performances. Smaller clubs ( White Trash in Berlin), larger stages ( Whiskey a Go Go Hollywood, WUK Vienna) and festivals such as the Montreux Jazz Festival , EXIT in Serbia, MUSEXPO Los Angeles and Przystanek Woodstock are just as much a part of it as a performance as support for Bon Jovi in the Letzigrund stadium .

Video: Tell Me What You See

The clip for the song Tell Me What You See illustrates a somewhat idiosyncratic relationship. Bottles, cakes, raw fish and other items are pulled over the singer's head in super slow motion. On a website, the user can also determine which objects should hit the singer. It is the first interactive music video in Switzerland and the first super slow motion music video worldwide. The initiative for this came from Mitch Bekk (pseudonym MitSpeck ), who studied CAST / Audiovisual Media in his final semester at the Zurich University of the Arts . In 2013 this video was nominated for the VIFF! VEGAS INDEPENDENT FILM FESTIVAL! and the London Independent Film Festival and won in the Best Music Video category at the Berlin Independent Film Festival and bronze in the Cinematography category at the Art Directors Club New York 92nd Annual Awards.

Among sirens

After the drummer Julien Pinheiro left the band, Kevin Chesham from Biel took over his job. In September 2014 the band released their second album. Among Sirens entered the Top10 of the Swiss charts, and the album reached a top position in the Swiss National Charts and at various sales outlets. After the release of the album, the band went on tour, which takes them through Switzerland, Germany and Denmark.
