The Raveonettes
The Raveonettes is a Danish garage rock duo consisting of singer , guitarist and songwriter Sune Rose Wagner and singer and bassist Sharin Foo.
Band history
Wagner and Foo, both born in 1973 in Denmark, met during the recording of an album by the band "Pleasure Machine". During a stay in Los Angeles in 1999 Wagner wrote the first tracks for his new band "Girl on Death Row". But only a few concerts were given under this name before the band renamed itself "The Raveonettes". Most of the "Girl on Death Row" tracks were released on the first album Whip It On .
In autumn 2001 the band began recording Whip It On in Copenhagen . The work on it was finished within three weeks. After recording guitarist Manoj Ramdas and drummer Jakob Hoyer, The Raveonettes played one of their first gigs at the SPOT Festival in Aarhus . The band is also supported on tours by bassist Anders Christensen.
Musical influences are mainly the beat and psychedelic music of the sixties from bands like The Who and the Everly Brothers , but also protopunk groups like The Velvet Underground and The Stooges .
Chain Gang of Love
Chain Gang of Love was the band's first "real" album. It was produced by Richard Gottehrer and is kept in B flat major throughout. It was recorded in various Danish studios and in New York from October to December 2002 and mixed in London in early 2003. The thirteen songs on the album were all written by Wagner, with the exception of That Great Love Sound , which he wrote together with Gottehrer. With two exceptions, all pieces are shorter than three minutes.
