Ryk (born November 30, 1989 in Gehrden as Rick Jurthe ; formerly known as Foxos ) is a German singer, composer and music producer.

Life

At the age of 5, Jurthe began taking piano lessons. Up to the age of 17 he completed a classical Russian school training with the pianist Vera Spindel from Saint Petersburg . After graduating from high school in Bad Nenndorf , Jurthe studied composition and music production at the Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media , Goldsmiths University of London and the Royal College of Music Stockholm . Since then he has been working as a songwriter, composer and music producer for various projects and artists in a wide variety of genres, including the Cirque du Soleil and the Vienna Symphony Orchestra .

Jurthe is involved in numerous voluntary projects to promote young pop culture. In spring 2014 he was awarded the German Student Union Prize for his commitment. In the spring of 2017, his score for the short film Samira with Lucas Prisor was nominated for the prize for the best score for film at the Festival International du Film d'Aubagne . Shortly thereafter, Jurthe was hired as composer and musical director of the Feuerwerk der Turnkunst, the largest and most successful circus and variety show in Europe with an annual audience of 250,000.

On February 22, 2018, Jurthe took part as Ryk in the TV show Our Song for Lisbon , the German preliminary decision for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 .

Own music projects

With the debut EP Fables , released in spring 2014 , Jurthe appeared for the first time musically with his own repertoire under the pseudonym FOXOS . Immediately afterwards, he reached as a participant in the finals of the prestigious PopCamps of the German Music Council from 2015 to 2016, he served as Foxos part of the 17th generation of the belt conveyor project Bandpool the Pop Academy Baden-Wuerttemberg . In May 2015 he won the music promotion award Krach & Getöse of the HASPA Musician Promotion and the RockCity eV Hamburg., Numerous appearances at festivals followed. a. c / o POP Festival Reeperbahn Festival , NDR Music Festival, EXPO Milano 2015 , Wutzrock Festival , Sound of the Forest Festival. and an invitation to TV Noir in cooperation with Arte Concert at the Secrets Festival In July 2015 he met the Young Symphony Orchestra Hanover for a crossover project. Shortly afterwards Jurthe got together for a collaboration with the Bochum label Roof Music , which only lasted for a short time, and then founded his own label Welthund Music. The second EP, Polar , was released on December 18, 2015 and entered the iTunes charts at number 45 .

As the first musical act ever, Jurthe accompanied Europe's most successful gymnastics and acrobatics show Fireworks of Gymnastics on its tours through Germany in 2016 and 2017 . In autumn 2016 he contributed a rework to the third album of the Hamburg electro-pop duo Hundreds , which was released on November 4, 2016 via Embassy of Music .

In autumn 2019, Jurthe will be a guest singer alongside Conchita Wurst at a crossover concert with the Wiener Symphoniker in the Stadthalle Vienna.
