Wutzrock is a free music festival in Hamburg that was first held in 1979 to support the youth center movement “JUZ, but dalli!”. It began on June 30, 1979. Around 2,000 people celebrated their first "Wutzrock" in the Billtal Stadium in Bergedorf. The background to this was that numerous youth centers (JUZ) were closed in Hamburg at the end of the 1970s, including in the Bergedorf district . However, according to the circumstances at the time and a distribution key (one youth center for every 30,000 inhabitants ) of the city of Hamburg , Bergedorf should have had at least three youth centers. The result of the effort was the creation of the self-managed youth center “Our House”, which runs the “Café Flop” independently.
Wutzrock is part of the association of festivals that have been founded since the 1970s under the motto " Free and outdoors ".
The Wutzrock Festival has been held at various locations in the Hamburg district of Bergedorf since 1979 . Since the end of the 1980s, a site on Eichbaumsee in Allermöhe has been the venue. Between the Dove Elbe and the bathing beach of the Eichbaumsee there is an Elbe stage (main stage), a lake stage, a backstage area and many different types of stands. You can camp free of charge on several meadows around the festival site. There is also no charge for parking motor vehicles, motorcycles and bicycles.
Although the festival grew somewhat in size in the early 1990s, it has lost none of its original and alternative charm. This is mainly due to the fact that every year there is a wide range of supporting programs for the whole family. There is a large and varied area for children, various cabarets, a poetry slam, many initiatives that stimulate discussion, as well as the “sleeping bag hopping world championship”.
Every year since 1999 around 5,000 people have come to Eichbaumsee for the three days of the festival.
The association "Galactic Entertainment eV" is behind the Wutzrock Festival. The music festival is financed for the most part from the sale of drinks, through stand rental and through sponsors. All the helpers and organizers around the festival are volunteers, and many of the artists also perform here for a fraction of their usual fee . In the past few years there were not only unknown bands, but also artists such as Tito & Tarantula , ZSK , Third Choice , Slime , Absolute Beginner , The Skatalites , Mighty Oaks , Das Bo , The Toasters , Panteón Rococó , 17 Hippies , Bersuit Vergarabat , Deichkind , Turbostaat , Karamelo Santo , Der Fall Böse , Mark Foggo's Skasters , Rantanplan , Ratatöska , Last Instance , One Fine Day , Dissidents , Dota and the City Pirates , Sam Ragga Band , I-Fire , Skatoons , Die Sterne , Fehlfarben , Ohrbooten , Rotfront , Subway to Sally , The Mighty Mocambos , Dr. Ring Ding , Das Pack , Herrenmagazin or Monsters of Liedermaching on stage.
