Bergedorf ( Low German : Bardbod ) is a district of the Bergedorf district of the same name in Hamburg . The district forms the cultural and economic center of the district.

geography

Bergedorf is located in the south-east of Hamburg, directly on the border with Wentorf and Reinbek in Schleswig-Holstein . The district is traversed by the Bille and is located on or partly on the Geestrücken at the Elbe glacial valley .

Today's district largely covers the area of the formerly independent town of Bergedorf . Only the Nettelnburg , Neuallermöhe-Ost and Bergedorf-West areas to the west of the Bille were not part of the urban area at the time.

On January 1, 2011, the new housing estate Neu-Allermöhe Ost, which was built in 1982, was assigned to the newly formed Neuallermöhe district . At the same time, the border to the Allermöhe district to the south of Bergedorf was straightened along federal motorway 25 and the Alt-Nettelnburg settlement was assigned to Bergedorf and the border to Billwerder to the west was slightly changed .

Surname

The name refers to the location on the Geesthang and the difference in altitude to the neighboring flat Vier- and Marschlanden , although Bergedorf is strictly speaking not on any mountain. The Saxon settlers, who probably lived here before the year 1000, were called Berger . In the course of history, various variations of the name were used for the town, for example Bergidorpe around 1162 , also Bergirdorpe and Bergerdorp , 1275 Berjerdorp and 1349 Berghdorpe .
