The Ernst-Henning-Straße school is an all-day primary school in Hamburg-Bergedorf . The school is attended by around 430 pupils who are looked after by 40 teachers (as of the 2012/2013 school year).
Surname
The name of the school refers to the Ernst-Henning-Straße, on which the school is located and which is named after the communist member of parliament Ernst Henning, who was murdered by the National Socialists in 1931 and who lived nearby. On March 22, 2007, the SPD parliamentary group submitted an application to the Bergedorf district assembly to rename the Ernst-Henning-Schule after learning from the local press that the school administration wanted it. The request was rejected. The background to this was Ernst Henning's participation in the armed Hamburg uprising , which made him unsustainable for the majority of the district members as a role model for children and thus as the school's namesake. The counter-proposal to name the school after August Bebel (whose name is also on a street that also runs past the school) was again rejected by the SPD parliamentary group.
Renovation of the school building
The school has been systematically renovated since 2004 and has been expanded to include an additional escape staircase, a second gym and an auditorium with a theater stage and dining room. The renovations, which also include a redesign of the school yard and the outdoor facilities, are estimated at seven million euros.
Project school Seefeld
In an old building near Hamburg-Kirchwerder , the school implemented long-term projects and project weeks until 2011. Here, outside of the city environment, sporting and environmental projects could be carried out. That ranged from rowing on the Gose-Elbe over camping to pottery courses and environmental protection topics. With the end of the 2012/2013 school year, the Ernst-Henning-Straße school is a pure elementary school. The Seefeld project school is no longer used by the Ernst-Henning-Straße school.
