The Sam Ragga Band is a reggae band from Hamburg . Their music is a mixture of reggae with poppy , soulful and Afro-American influences and rhythms combined with rap , whereby there has been a development away from roots reggae and rap with German lyrics towards driving dancehall influences with English lyrics.
Band history
The band was formed in 1996 on the Absolute Beginner's Flashnizm tour .
She had her first gig on Christmas Eve 1996 in Molotow (Hamburg) together with Jan Delay , Samy Deluxe and Tropf (Kaspar Wiens). The first recordings were made in 1997, but they were never published; some of the riddims were later re-recorded for the first Jan Delay album, Searching for the Jan Soul Rebels . Together with Jan Delay, the band went on the "60 Hertz Tour" in 2001, where they performed as the "Jan Delay featuring Sam Ragga Band".
In 2003 the band released Loktown Hi-Life, the band's first album with the participation of various friends and well-known rappers. The recordings and the mix took place in the Loktown studio together with Niko Sieveking. The permanent formation now included the singers Seanie T. from London, Jessica McIntyre and Esther Cowens. The first single on the album was Die Welt ist still feat. Jan Delay .
In 2004, The Sound of Sam Ragga , the band's third record, was released. Besides Patrice , Nena is another guest musician. Most of the album was mixed with Horst Sievert (aka Blank Fontana) in the MOB Studio. The band then went on a six-week tour through Germany, Austria and Switzerland. At the beginning of 2005 he switched to the label Savoir Faire (SAFA; with the Hamburg distributor Indigo), followed by several appearances at festivals in Germany, Austria and Switzerland in the summer.
The album Situations was released in 2006, followed in 2008 by the dub album In Dub with dub versions of selected songs from the three previous Sam Ragga band albums.
