Josef Salvat (born October 28, 1988 in Sydney ) is an Australian pop singer .

biography

Josef Salvat grew up in Sydney and learned to play the piano as a child. He began mainly with classical music, but then turned to pop music, influenced by the 80s music of his parents, and wrote his own songs. He later began studying law at the University of Sydney , but then opted for a career as a musician. He spent some time in Barcelona and in late 2009 went to London with some self-made demos to find a manager and get started in the music business. He also posted some of his songs on the Internet.

The Australian, who now lives permanently in the English capital, first drew attention to himself in early 2013 with the publication of This Life on his Soundcloud page, which was also released as the first maxi single a little later. The song Hustler , uploaded three months later , a re-recording of a song written back in 2010, received positive reviews in the music press and was viewed over half a million times. This was followed by festival appearances and a concert in the support program of the Jezabels . He was booked for the renowned South by Southwest in Austin , Texas, in spring 2014, but withdrew his participation.

Instead, Salvat, who is under contract with Sony / Columbia , produced his first real EP with Rich Cooper and Gustave Rudman as producers. In addition to This Life , it contains three more recent recordings, including a cover of Rihanna's Diamonds , which he also chose because it was co-composed by the Australian Sia Furler . Sony used its version in television advertising for a 4K Ultra HD television, whereupon it entered the charts in Germany and England in November 2014. He was most successful in France, where he reached number 2.
