Anita Savija was born in 1985 as the daughter of Macedonian and Bosnian guest workers in Vienna. After her older brother was hired by the Cirque du Soleil due to his success as a ballet dancer, Savija also began to take ballet lessons at the age of twelve. She finally moved to the Vienna Conservatory to complete a nine-year training course as a classical ballet dancer. In the meantime, she stayed on New York's Broadway on a scholarship to continue her education at the Steps on Broadway studio . Due to the strict role models of classical stage dance, she abandoned ballet and moved to the French capital Paris. There she hired the famous Crazy Horse variety theater . Since the dancers of the cabaret traditionally appear under a pseudonym and Savija, in the opinion of the staff, had a " petite and fragile " figure, she was given the stage name Marla Blumenblatt. Until 2008 she performed alongside Dita Von Teese in Paris before moving to the Las Vegas branch of Crazy Horse . Blumenblatt turned down a meanwhile offer from Cirque du Soleil . Instead, she signed in the Paris theater for two more years.

In 2011 Marla Blumenblatt ended her career as a dancer to devote herself to music. At the end of the year she moved to Berlin, where she worked with 15 strings and brass on her debut album. In September 2013 this was published under the title Immer die Boys on the Four Music label . After Psaiko.Dino, known as the tour DJ of rapper Cro, became aware of Blumenblatt, he created a number of remixes for the singer's songs. In summer 2014 these were bundled as an EP Wie Wär's? published via Chimperator Department . At the beginning of February 2015, the singer signed an artist contract with AdP Records . The EP Sag Einfach ja , on which rappers Eko Fresh and Olexesh are featured as guest musicians, was released there in mid-April . From autumn 2015 she worked for some time under the name Marlita as a Youtuber. Under the name Marla Pétale, she released the album Poison Arrows through Department Musik in October 2017 , which she had recorded in Macedonia a few years earlier.

style

Marla Blumenblatt was inspired by musicians like Caterina Valente , Diana Krall , Frank and Nancy Sinatra , Connie Francis and John Barry . But more modern hip-hop and R'n'B artists such as Salt 'n' Pepa , Wu-Tang Clan , Cypress Hill and Whitney Houston also influenced their style. She describes herself as a “ nostalgic ” whose preference for “ Fifties-Sixties music ” is also reflected in her interior and style of clothing. Her debut album Immer die Boys moves musically between rockabilly and chansons of the 1950s and 60s. During the production she said it was important not to record any “ canned music” and consequently refrained from taking samples. The Berliner Morgenpost described their first publication as " Sound shortly before the sexual revolution ". In addition to this, the texts are to a certain extent “ burlesque translated into words. “With the EP Sag simply ja , however, Blumenblatt used more modern productions. She sings in English for the first time on her second album Poison Arrows . Stylistically she makes use of jazz and swing from the 1920s.
