Ölsen is a municipality in the Altenkirchen (Westerwald) district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Altenkirchen-Flammersfeld .

geography

Ölsen is about 8 km north of Altenkirchen . From the place you have an unobstructed view of the Irsetal and the heights of the Leuscheid . The Friedenthal residential area , which was built in 1878 and has three residential buildings and a historic smithy , belongs to Ölsen and is located directly on the border with North Rhine-Westphalia and the Leuscheider Land . Neighboring communities are Niederirsen , Birkenbeul , Heupelzen and Oberirsen .

The highest point in the community is the Bickeberg ( 364  m above sea  level ).

history

Oils

Ölsen was first mentioned on June 13, 1292 in a document from the Marienstatt monastery . In the Middle Ages , the Irserbach separated the county of Sayn and the Duchy of Berg as a border river . The place Ölsen was once home to the knights of those of Udolfshusyn occupied on 13 June 1292 as the document from the monastery Marienstatt. (Then Udilshusen) A Rokil of Ölsen was 1359 alderman in Altenkirchen. A Heinrich von Ölsen was also a judge there from 1430 .

Until the middle of the 17th century Ölsen belonged to the county of Sayn . After the introduction of the Reformation in the county of Sayn, the inhabitants were first Lutheran and later reformed .

From 1810, at the time of the Nassau government, a Schulze had its seat in Ölsen. For centuries, charcoal was transported through the Ölsen district to the Hammer Hütten, in the Siegerland and down the Rhine to Holland .

Friedenthal

The first house in Friedenthal was that of the Kirchner family, who in 1878 built the first building, a forge, across from Mittelirsen in the area of ​​the community of Ölsen. They called the place Friedenthal - probably because of its remote location . After the expansion of the Irsetalstraße from Birnbach to Irsermühle in 1887–1892, another family settled in the hamlet. A third residential building was built in 1914/1915. At that time, the students had to attend school in Birkenbeul ; it was not until 1915 that they could be assigned to the nearby school location of Kocherscheid in the Rhein-Sieg district . Today's residents are more economically and culturally oriented towards the neighboring Windecker Ländchen .
