Giershausen is a municipality in the Altenkirchen (Westerwald) district in Rhineland-Palatinate . It belongs to the community of Altenkirchen-Flammersfeld .

history
The name suggests the shape of the first settlement site, houses on the greed or Gehre . It is assumed that the settlement of the community started from a permanent house, the house of the Giersch , an early Carolingian refugee castle ( Motte ), which was built around 800 AD, whereupon the field name "In der Motschel" indicates. Old and new paths run in a star shape towards a round spot in the middle, where the remains of a palisade of a moth and parts of an old fountain on the edge were found during excavations.
The place is mentioned for the first time in 1470 in the Hachenburger Rentbuch. In 1606 there are seven families here. In 1744 14 houses are counted. In 1801 40 male and 46 female residents live in 12 houses.
Giershausen belonged to the county of Sayn-Altenkirchen and the parish of Mehren until 1806 . The county of Sayn-Altenkirchen came to Prussia by inheritance in 1791 and was awarded to the Principality of Nassau-Usingen in 1803 in the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss . In 1806 the two Nassau princes joined the Napoleonic Rhine Confederation , so that from 1806 the region belonged to the Duchy of Nassau . A participant in the Congress of Vienna made (1815) agreements, the territory of the former saynischen counties was to the Kingdom of Prussia ceded .
Under the Prussian administration, Giershausen was assigned to the Weyerbusch mayor in the newly established Altenkirchen district , which from 1822 belonged to the Rhine Province .
In 1867 the population was 97, almost as many as today. At that time there were only 18 houses, compared to about thirty today. In 1877 Giershausen sent 16 children to school in Walterschen .
